# Description
Drops support for **netstandard2.1** and **.NET Framework 4.7.2**.
Libraries now target `net48`, `net8.0`, `net9.0` and `net10.0`.
`Opc.Ua.Types` and `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core` still also target
`netstandard2.0`, but only because the Roslyn source generators load
them. There is no general netstandard2.0 support.
**Preprocessor directives** (112 files)
- Every `#if`/`#elif` mentioning `NETSTANDARD2_1*`, `NET472*`,
`NET_STANDARD_TESTS`, `SKIP_ECC_CERTIFICATE_REQUEST_SIGNING` or
`NETSTANDARD*` was evaluated against the remaining TFM set (net48,
net8/9/10, plus netstandard2.0 inside `Opc.Ua.Types`/`tools`) and
simplified. Dead branches were removed.
- Example: `NETSTANDARD2_1 || NET8_0_OR_GREATER` → `NET8_0_OR_GREATER`.
- Example: `NET8_0_OR_GREATER || NET472_OR_GREATER` → removed (always
true).
- Netstandard-only code was removed: `UnixFileModeShim`, the CRDT
reflection path in `ReplicatedGossipOptions.CreateReaderOptions`, and
the netstandard2.1-only test variants.
**Custom test logic**
- `targets.props` drops the `net472`, `netstandard2.0` and
`netstandard2.1` `CustomTestTarget` profiles, `NetStandardTests` and
`SKIP_ECC_CERTIFICATE_REQUEST_SIGNING`. Supported values are now
`net48`, `net8.0`, `net9.0`, `net10.0`.
- The `NET_STANDARD_TESTS` define is removed from 29 test projects.
- The "build netstandard shells as net10.0" overrides are removed from
18 projects.
- `RestrictForLegacyTfm` now only applies to `net48`.
- `tests/customtest.bat` is updated to the new values.
**Build / packaging / CI**
- MSBuild TFM conditions are simplified: Kestrel package choice, MQTTnet
v4 (net48 only), BouncyCastle, Di/OpenUsd/Vision/Stress test excludes,
and `System.IO.FileSystem.AccessControl` (dropped from Core).
- The MigrationAnalyzer nuspec drops its net472/netstandard2.1 lib
groups. The Azure signing lists are updated.
- `get-ci-matrix.ps1` removes the net472/netstandard test profiles
(including the PR-gating `linux-netstandard2.1`) and the matching build
legs.
**Breaking API change (2.0 preview):** removed
`HttpsTransportListener.IsWssTransportSupported` and
`ReplicatedGossipOptions.IsGossipStateDecodingSupported`. They only
returned `false` on netstandard2.1 and are now always `true`. The test
guards that used them were removed as well.
**Docs**
- NuGet READMEs, `README.md`, `DeveloperGuide.md`, `PubSub.md`, the
certificate/ECC/identity docs and the 2.0 migration guide (plus its
`.agents` skill mirror) are updated.
- The migration guide notes that 4.7.2 consumers must move to 4.8 and
netstandard2.1 consumers to net8.0+.
### Reviewer notes
- The `System.IO.FileSystem.AccessControl` `PackageVersion` pin is left
in `Directory.Packages.props`. It has no direct reference any more, but
transitive pinning is on, so it was kept to avoid shifting resolved
versions.
- The `#if` rewrite was done mechanically by a truth-table evaluator.
The diff in the `.cs` files is limited to directive lines, removed dead
branches, and stale-comment updates.
### Verified locally
- `dotnet build UA.slnx -p:CustomTestTarget=net48`: 0 errors.
- `dotnet build UA.slnx -p:CustomTestTarget=net10.0`: 0 errors.
- Default multi-target builds (no `CustomTestTarget`) of Opc.Ua.Types,
Bindings.Https, PubSub.Mqtt and Redundancy.Server succeeded.
- net10.0 tests:
- Opc.Ua.Redundancy.Server.Tests: 840/840 passed.
- Opc.Ua.Types.Tests: 11363 passed, 1 skipped.
- ModelDependencyScanner tests: 20/20 passed.
- The full test suite was **not** run locally.

# Description
Removes the Azure Pipelines CI and package-publishing definitions from
`master`. GitHub Actions already owns all CI and package publishing for
`master`, but pushes to `master` still queued the Azure definitions.
They duplicated the Actions work and posted failing checks, for example
[`Nuget Preview (Push Nuget Preview Pack Nugets
Debug)`](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/runs/109065914524)
on `19dc504c5`.
## Removed
- `azure-pipelines.yml`, `azure-pipelines-preview.yml`
- `.azurepipelines/` templates: `ci.yml`, `coverage.yml`, `preview.yml`,
`sample-ha-longhaul.yml`, `sln.yml`, `test.yml`, `test-aot.yml`
- Helpers only those templates used: `get-matrix.ps1`, `get-root.ps1`,
`evaluate-test-results.ps1`
- `TrxGateScriptTests`: it tested only `evaluate-test-results.ps1`. The
Actions equivalent, `.github/scripts/get-test-verdict.ps1`, keeps its
own `CiTestVerdictTests`.
## Kept
**OneFuzz:** `.azurepipelines/onefuzz.yml` stays. Submitting to the
internal OneFuzz service needs the Azure DevOps-only `onefuzz-task`,
which has no GitHub Actions equivalent. The pipeline has no push, PR or
schedule trigger, so it never runs on `master` pushes. The public drop
build keeps running in the GitHub `fuzz-public-drop` job.
**Scripts GitHub Actions still invokes:** these stay in
`.azurepipelines/`, so every workflow path and `release.yml`'s
candidate-bound checkout keep working. Only `generate-slnx.ps1` changes,
and only its comment.
| Script | Used by |
| --- | --- |
| `set-version.ps1` | buildandtest, nightly, nuget-publish,
docker-image, stress / stability / long-haul, `run-dotnet-tests` action
|
| `generate-slnx.ps1`, `signlist{Debug,Release}.txt`,
`validate-source-generator-packages.ps1` (+ `expected-packages.txt`) |
nuget-publish |
| `package-version-policy.ps1`, `validate-nuget-package-set.ps1`,
`validate-preview-package-ordering.ps1`,
`assert-published-packages-match.ps1` | nuget-publish, release |
| `check-coverage.ps1` | buildandtest, nightly |
| `validate-migration-plugin.ps1` | buildandtest |
I didn't rename the directory on purpose. `release.yml` checks out the
candidate commit and runs `./.azurepipelines/package-version-policy.ps1`
from it, so moving the scripts would break promotion of any candidate
built before the move.
## Docs and comments
- `UA.slnx` drops the deleted files.
- `codecov.yml`, `coverage-thresholds.json`, `targets.props`, the
Redundancy sample test comments, the `.github` scripts and workflows,
`CONTRIBUTING.md`, `docs/` and `fuzzing/` no longer describe Azure as
running on `master` (`/azp run`, the `azure` Codecov flag, "the Azure
gate", the Azure long-haul and AoT legs).
- In the Developer Guide, the "Triggering a pipeline run" and "Migration
status" sections are replaced by "Pull requests from outside
contributors" and "Azure Pipelines on other branches".
- The new section names `onefuzz.yml` as the one remaining Azure
definition.
- It keeps the warning that the `Release` ruleset's Azure required check
must be lifted before cutting a new `release/2.<minor>` branch.
- `master` is merged in, including the #4555 docs rewrite. Its new
`docs/RedundancySampleTests.md` needed the Azure references removed
again. `docs/README.md` already had none.
## Reviewer notes
- **Azure DevOps side (admin action, not in this PR):** the definitions
are configured in the Azure DevOps portal. With the YAML gone, `master`
pushes give the CI and preview definitions nothing to run. Disabling
definition 14's push trigger/schedule, definition 16's build-completion
trigger, and the stale definition 13 stops any residual "file not found"
runs. Leave the OneFuzz definition enabled.
- `master378`, the 1.x `release/*` lines and the frozen `release/2.0.0`
keep their own `azure-pipelines.yml`. This PR only touches `master`.
## Related Issues

This PR removes a test and adds none. Locally, at `9b00da817`, the full
`Opc.Ua.Tools.Tests` suite passed on net10.0: 884 passed, 1 skipped. The
later commits (OneFuzz restore, merge with `master`) touch only YAML and
docs.

The OPC UA stack builds for seven target frameworks (net472, net48,
netstandard2.0, netstandard2.1, net8.0, net9.0, net10.0), but our
regular pull-request builds only compile two of them (net10.0 and
net48). The complete per-framework build runs only in a weekly scheduled
Azure job, so when a change breaks one of the other frameworks nobody
notices for days. That is exactly what happened in build 14931, which
was red on net8.0, net9.0, netstandard2.0 and netstandard2.1.
This PR fixes all of those broken frameworks. The fixes are small and
framework-specific: a net10.0-only test project reference is made
conditional so net8.0/net9.0 can build, a set of "legacy-stripped"
project shells that failed to compile as empty netstandard assemblies
now build as net10.0, and a few polyfill and NuGet-package collisions in
the netstandard2.1 build are resolved by building its test/app projects
as net8.0 and pinning the matching MQTTnet version. After these changes,
`dotnet build UA.slnx` succeeds cleanly for every framework.
To stop this from regressing, the PR adds two CI jobs that run on every
pull request, in parallel with the existing unit tests: one on Windows
that builds the .NET Framework targets (net472, net48, netstandard2.0)
and one on Linux that builds the modern .NET and netstandard2.1 targets
(net8.0, net9.0, net10.0, netstandard2.1). Together they cover all seven
frameworks and fail the PR if any single one won't build. The workflow's
trigger list was also widened so these jobs run when only build or
configuration files change (for example `*.props` or `*.targets`), not
just C# source. This PR supersedes #3912 and folds in its fixes.
* fix some CTT Tests, fix netstandard 2.1 CI by using net 10 targets instead of net 8

This change adds a **new Opc.Ua.Types** nuget that contains core types that do not rely on generated code. Why the name? Because almost all code that was in the Types subfolder is part of it, and because we do not want to change the name of the Opc.Ua.Core nuget/assembly because code relies on it. Any other name like base or bootstrap felt out of place due to the current structure already defining the name "types". Key design is to depend on only a small set of libraries with limited transitive dependencies, that includes hashcode, logging.abstraction, and for non standard20 builds System.Text.Json (needed for localizedText mul parsing). Also, key is to support .netstd 2.0 to support source generators and to allow removal of EEC_SUPPORT defines by removing std2.0 from core and all libraries.
The changes are mostly restructuring, and thus small but contain some key changes:
- **Status code** struct now comes with a Symbol field, which is used to carry symbols in case the code is not generated. Currently (until generated) the status code struct must be manually created with a symbol or the ToSymbolicId extension must be called in the core project. Future will generate Status code constants just like NodeId that contain the symbol which also removes the reflection-based lookup. Several tests needed to be adjusted as they checked the status code symbol strings instead of the code.
- **Core identifiers** are copied as they were needed for code to compile, that includes attributes, a subset of status codes and node identifiers. These will never change so no need to generate them.
- The types folder now contains **encoders**, except for json which is still in core. Once the json encoder is ported to system.text.json it will also be included and Newtonsoft.Json dropped as dependency (-> #3329).
- Since types relies on **IOperationContext** and **ISystemContext**, and these export IUserIdentity which relies on crypto, these were split and extended in core with ISessionOperationContext and ISessionSystemContext, which mean changes to ServerSystemContext and introduction of SessionOperationContext and SessionSystemContext classes that extend OperationContext and SystemContext. Some runtime checks in the server are therefore needed to get at the session and auth info, however, those are anyway optional fields and are not on the critical paths, and thus a type check is in order (and was done in the past already, but against OperationContext class).
- **Manifest resources** are now split between Core (nodeset zip, some generated resoures) and Types (built in bsd/xsds). This needs to be revisited later if the bsd/xsd need to be regenerated during type generation. Note that the embedded resource names changed as a result. Since these are only used internally and do not constitute public API this feels reasonable vs duplication of resources in 2 assemblies.
- Reflection however now needs to load not just the built in **encodeables** from Opc.Ua.Types assembly, but also the generated encodeables from Opc.Ua.Core assembly. For this a new helper Utils method was added to get the Core assembly when linked against Opc.Ua.Core otherwise null.
- Whatever utils methods needed to be split out into the new Opc.Ua.Types assembly, they are now in **CoreUtils** static class in Opc.Ua.Types, and Utils.xxxx forwards to them to ensure minimal changes. Later we would want to obsolete them in favor of CoreUtils, although it might make sense to split them again into domain specific utilities, such as networking, files, etc
* remove .net 6 target

remove debug flag from pubsub
* Remove net 6 from azp
* Update Nuget Packages
* Update missed pipeline

- Reduce memory allocations in JSON encoder by using stackalloc/ArrayPool
- Fix some new warnings in .NET9 code analyzers
- Fix fuzzing error in JsonDecoder
- do not use .NET9 libraries with .NET8 LTS builds #2931, #2940
- Bump langversion to 9 (max VS2019)
- Use official ASP.Net 2.3. libraries for .NET Framework (rel. Jan 15th)
- OpenStore behavior changed to return null if the storepath or storetype are invalid or empty, which is a change to the previous release. Hence some support functions should check the return value of OpenStore.
- Fix: Check for null in LoadPrivateKeyEx
- in addition: try fix the new flaky test issue
- fix#2637: an exception when the https server starts and a X509Store certificate has a non exportable private key, it is not needed to create a copy for the TLS transport. Ignore the error and start the cert with the original cert.
- restructure which platforms are supported by https and complextypes, to avoid dependency collisions. Remove netcoreapp3.1 (eol), support netstandard2.0/2.1 instead.

Add the reconnect exception text to the log message, otherwise the exception is filtered out.
Turn off the trace logging in tests, as it causes timeout issues on some ci VMs
reduce callbacks if client reconnect and call AddItems
Fix BadNothingToDo when Loading dictionaries
Revert benchmark.net to v13 due to weird build dependency issues with 14.x
-reduce Xml/Json output of encoder tests to avoid out of memory exception (trx reduced from 600MB to 40MB)
-simplify a few NodeCache tests and disable a test case which produces a lot of exception logs
-default targets to net8.0 instead of net6.0
-fix benchmark cmd (required PlatformTarget)
-remove nunitxml.testlogger dependency from projects
- change macOS 11 ci builds to newer ones, macOS 11 is deprecated
- fix Opc.Ua.Client EventSource message numbering
- bump nerdgit to 3.6.139
- include .NET Standard 2.0 builds back in Nuget packages for client and server (complex type support requires netcoreapp2.1 which is end of life)
- include .NET Framework 4.7.2 as lowest supported .NET Framework platform
- move https client channel back to core library, as it requires only netstandard2.0 and has no other dependencies.
- Opc.Ua.Https is now only needed for a https server with kestrel.
- fix security warning for system.private.uri
- upload Quickstarts.Servers to the preview feed to allow use in the samples repo and avoid duplicate codebase
- Add a solution to provide fuzzer support for afl-fuzz and libfuzzer.
- Add fuzz targets for Binary, Json and Xml encoder and decoder fuzzing. For afl-fuzz and libfuzzer.
- Fix issues in encoders and decoders when unexpected exceptions are returned. The expectation is to return only ServiceResultException with BadDecodingError, BadEncodingError or BadEncodingLimitsExceeded.
- Add a tool to create Testcases.
- Add a tool to playback crashes and timeouts.
- Solution is extensible with common files to discover new fuzz targets by reflection. New fuzz projects can share many files with the first project.
- Breaking change: Fix how BinaryDecoder is used: Previously, calling close on the BinaryDecoder implicitly disposed the stream. Change behavior so that `using` pattern can be applied across the board.
- only republish available sequence numbers
- store republish result to handle unsuccessful message republish in main loop
- republish in parallel instead of sequential to reduce response times / blocking in the publish response processing loop
EscapeString is a function which parses every string for special characters, but often times it is already known that there are no escape characters to process. Improve WriteSimpleField to only call JsonEncoder.EscapeString if necessary.

The goal is to reduce the overall number of builds, stop using end of life platforms in the build pipeline and to support
build of future/deprecated build targets in a custom build step, which is also triggered weekly in the ci builds.
In addition:
- added a doc which describes the release and versioning strategy of this project
- produce the Nuget packges with .NET 8 assemblies.
- produce a Docker build based on a .NET 8 based container.
- add custom test targets to test outdated platforms. Need a manual step to enable for VS or command line.
- bug fixes: the latest move to an alternate crypto library for Bouncy Castle, which is only used for the GDS support and .NET Framework 4.6.2./netstandard2.0, revealed already a few issues which were previously not found.
- only .NET8/.NET6/.NET Framework 4.8 are tested in Pull requests. Remaining builds in weekly scheduled builds.
- Deprecate support for Nuget package support of .NET Framework 4.6.2
- Bump sample applications to 4.8
- update some copyright headers / supporting files (editorconfig etc.)
- fix a few warnings
- fix an issue with `SessionReconnectHandler`, in certain combination of reconnect period and exponential backoff the .NET sample app never reconnected.
- Problem to be solved: Currently using dictionaries of NodeId or ExpandedNodeId may not work correctly due to the homebrew hash code generation, which may cause false duplicates.
- Use the HashCode library to calculate the hashcodes for some BuiltInTypes, mostly NodeId/ExpandedNodeId.
- Fix an issue with csproj where VS 2019 did not show errors
- Update copyright year
- After discussion default SendCertChain to true
- Bring back part of the code which was removed by Modelcompiler to fix the BuildStatus variable
- Fix the GDS Server Push, which does not fully update the server descriptions with a chain, if sendcertchain is selected
- fix issue in macOS, when cert chains are used the X509Certificate2 constructor throws exception
-Enable package validation to catch API differences on target platforms
-Build and release .NET 4.8 assemblies in preparation of retirement of .NET 4.6.2. support
-.NET 4.8 does not rely on bouncy castle for cert creation and supports ECC certificates. Bouncy castle is only used on this platform to read and write PEM encoded certificates.
- Kestrel server is end of life for .NET Core 2.1, only support for .NET framework and netstandard2.0
- Use FrameworkReference to include ASPNET services for .NET Core 3.x and later
- adjust the code signing for bindings.https
- deprecate complextypes.symbols package
- note: only netcoreapp3.1 and net6.0 frameworks yet support latest kestrel and allow to use MS.Ext.Logging library >=5.x with bindings.https. If netstandard2.0 or net462 is used, the Microsoft.Extensions.Logging library >= 3.x cause a TypeException in Microsoft...HttpHeader because a required class became obsolete in Platform.Extensions.
- support for Microsoft.Extensions.Logger.ILogger in Opc.Ua.Core as the new logging interface
- backward compatible with config and TraceEvents
- new API Utils.SetLogger allows to set ILogger
- updated Console samples to demonstrate ILogger support with Serilog
- support for EventSource logging
- see Docs/Logging.md for more info
- remove use of Bouncy Castle for .NET Core 3
- refactor CreateCertificate class to allow for an easier Create fluent model with respect to future extensions, e.g. ECC
- reimplement X509CRL and a couple of extension relevant for OPC UA based on the new System.Formats.Asn1 library
- use CertificateRequest on .NET Core 3.1
- refactor codebase to allow for a seperate library to handle all the ASN.1 encoding/decoding
- new package Opc.Ua.Security.Certificates with all ASN.1 encode/decode related code
breaking change: many X509 related util functions were moved to X509Utils class
Note: .NET 4.6.2 and .NET Core 2.1 versions still use BouncyCastle for Cert creation
- solutions support still VS2017 and VS 2019
- ci now also tests net462 & netcoreapp3.1
- next rev of nuget packages will have netstandard2.1 support
- a few small fixes for netcoreapp3.1
