Update NuGet dependencies and migrate tests to NUnit 5 (#4840)
# Description Update 55 NuGet dependencies to the latest stable releases available on 2026-10-19, preserving documented compatibility pins and framework-specific version bands. Existing OpenUSD prereleases remain unchanged because no newer releases are available. Migrate existing tests to NUnit 5: await asynchronous assertions, propagate async through helpers, handle nullable predicates, and replace obsolete `Order` attributes with sequencing dependencies. Sequencing dependencies use `AllowFailure = true`; filtering a dependent test also runs prerequisites. Adjust fixture-level parallelism where NUnit dependency scheduling requires it. Keep Roslyn API/runtime pins intact; select newer Immutable/Metadata runtime packages only for test and profiling hosts requiring them. Update the approved SDK pin to 10.0.402 across local, CI, and container builds. Document NUnit 5 conventions. |

Secure the UADP DataSetMetaData announcement on secured connections (#4712)
# Description `MetaDataPublisher` encoded the DataSetMetaData announcement itself and called `IPubSubTransport.SendAsync` directly. That bypassed the connection's security wrapper and its fail-closed check. A WriterGroup configured for `SignAndEncrypt` therefore announced its DataSet layout (field names, types, version) unsigned and unencrypted. A secured subscriber dropped the announcement (`Dropping unsecured inbound frame ... requiring SignAndEncrypt`, documented as an expected warning in docs/PubSub.md), and any listener could read it. OPC 10000-14 §6.2.5.2 applies the WriterGroup's SecurityMode to the NetworkMessages it publishes, and §7.2.4.6.3 carries the security of a discovery announcement in its SecurityHeader. Confirmed on the wire: the documented `udp-uadp` exchange sent secured DataSetMessages plus one DiscoveryResponse (announcement type 2, DataSetMetaData) with ExtendedFlags1 `0x81`, meaning the SecurityHeader bit was clear. Review feedback widened the scope to every UADP discovery message of a secured connection, and to the diagnostics of secured messages. Fix: - `MetaDataPublisher` builds the announcement and hands it to the connection (`PubSubConnection.SendMetaDataAnnouncementAsync`). - One encode-and-secure step (`PubSubConnection.EncodeOutboundAsync`) now serves data messages, discovery requests and responses, and the announcements that UDP and Ethernet send to their transport-specific discovery destination (ApplicationInformation, PublisherEndpoints, PubSubConnection). On a connection configured for message security, it applies the SecurityMode (`Sign`, or `SignAndEncrypt`) to UADP messages and refuses to send any message it cannot secure. - Before, a secured connection dropped its own discovery requests, so a secured subscriber could not ask for metadata, writer configuration, or endpoints. It also refused metadata and writer-configuration probe responses, and sent the transport-specific announcements in plaintext. - A discovery response or announcement that cannot be secured or sent is logged (`DiscoveryMessageNotSent`, Warning) and dropped. Securing announcements makes them depend on a current key; without this, a key provider with no key yet, for example before a Security Key Service delivers the first key, made `StartAsync` fail, and a probe response that could not be secured ended the receive loop. Requests sent through `RequestDiscoveryAsync` still throw to the caller. - Secured messages are counted in `SentNetworkMessages` and `SentDataSetMessages` like unsecured ones. Before, they bypassed the encoder that counts them, so secured data messages were never counted. - `UadpDiscoveryCoder` can encode a discovery message with the SecurityHeader bit set, and reports the security boundary after the PublisherId (and DataSetClassId), which is where `UadpDecoder.TryReadOuterPrefix` ends the prefix. `UadpEncoder.EncodeWithSecurityBoundary` accepts discovery messages. - The receive path is unchanged: it already unwraps secured discovery frames and registers authenticated metadata. - Not changed: the MQTT last-will status message is registered with the broker when the connection opens and published later, so it cannot carry a current SecurityHeader; it stays unsecured. - docs/PubSub.md no longer lists the unsecured-frame warning. It describes how the SecurityMode applies to announcements and discovery (`Sign` authenticates; `SignAndEncrypt` also encrypts) and the last-will exception. Tests: - `MetaDataPublisherTests.UadpPathSecuresTheAnnouncementOfASecuredWriterGroupAsync`: the announcement of a SignAndEncrypt WriterGroup carries a SecurityHeader, does not contain the DataSet name in cleartext, and unwraps and decodes with the subscriber's keys. Before the fix, the announcement had no SecurityHeader. - `MetaDataPublisherTests.SecuredNetworkMessagesAreCountedAsSentAsync`: before the fix, `SentNetworkMessages` read 0 on a secured connection. - `PubSubDiscoveryTests.SecuredSubscriberDiscoversSecuredPublisherWithoutPlaintextFramesAsync`: a secured subscriber and a secured publisher, connected through an in-memory transport that also sends announcements to a separate destination, discover metadata, writer configuration, and endpoints, and no frame lacks a SecurityHeader. Before the fix, the metadata request was dropped. With only the announcement change reverted, the PublisherEndpoints response was dropped. - `PubSubDiscoveryTests.StartupAnnouncementsWithoutACurrentKeyDoNotFailTheStartAsync` and `ReceiveLoopSurvivesADiscoveryResponseThatCannotBeSecuredAsync`: both failed before the fail-soft change. - `UadpDiscoveryTests.SecuredDiscoveryMessagesSplitWhereTheReceiverExpects`: for requests and responses, with and without a DataSetClassId, the secured encoding differs from the unsecured one only by the SecurityHeader flag, and its boundary equals the receiver's prefix length. - `UadpDiscoveryTests.EncodeWithSecurityBoundaryRejectsAMessageItCannotSecure`. ### Validation | Command | Result | | --- | --- | | `dotnet test tests/Opc.Ua.PubSub.Tests -f net10.0 -p:CustomTestTarget=net10.0` | 1498 passed, 1 skipped (the UDP multicast loopback discovery test, which this host skips) | | `dotnet test tests/Opc.Ua.PubSub.Tests -f net48 -p:CustomTestTarget=net48` | 1498 passed, 1 skipped | | `dotnet test` on net10.0 for `Opc.Ua.PubSub.Udp.Tests`, `.Eth.Tests`, `.Mqtt.Tests`, `.Server.Tests`, `fuzzing/Opc.Ua.PubSub.Fuzz.Tests` | 234, 55, 157, 177, 149 passed | | `dotnet test` on net10.0 for `Opc.Ua.PubSub.Kafka.Tests`, `.Adapter.Tests`, `.Diagnostics.Tests`, `Opc.Ua.Redundancy.PubSub.Tests` (on |

Harden encoders/decoders against untrusted input and align them with Part 6 / Part 14 (#4599)
# Description
Hardens the encoders and decoders against untrusted input and aligns
them with OPC 10000-6 (1.05) and OPC 10000-14. This comes from an audit
of every codec reachable from a peer:
- Binary, JSON and XML decoders and encoders;
- built-in and complex types;
- UA-TCP/UASC framing;
- PubSub UADP and PubSub JSON.
The audit found 97 issues: 1 critical, 7 high, 39 medium and 50 low.
They are all fixed here, one commit per finding (IDs B1-, J1-, X1-, T1-,
S1-, U1-, P1-, E1-, E2- in the commit subjects). Every fix was then
checked against the spec a second time, and the deviations that re-check
found were fixed as well (`*-spec` commits).
## Security (decoders reachable from unauthenticated peers)
- **Allocation from length prefixes (B1-1, B1-5, U1-1, U1-3).**
- Array, string and byte-string lengths are checked against the bytes
left in the message before anything is allocated.
- Arrays read element by element grow as elements are decoded, so nested
length prefixes can no longer multiply memory.
- UADP discovery counts and chunk reassembly buffers are bounded the
same way.
- **Stack exhaustion.** Nesting is checked for remaining stack
(`RuntimeHelpers.EnsureSufficientExecutionStack` mapped to
`BadEncodingLimitsExceeded`), and the large Variant read/write methods
were split into scalar, array and matrix methods. Measured on 1 MB and
256 KB threads, no codec overflows at the default limits any more.
- **XML element depth (X1-1).** XmlElement values and raw
ExtensionObject bodies are copied node by node with a depth limit,
instead of with the recursive `InnerXml`, `ImportNode`, `InnerText` and
`DeepEquals` calls.
- **Limit bypasses:**
- JSON NodeId, QualifiedName and opaque strings now respect
MaxStringLength and MaxByteStringLength (J1-1).
- Matrix rank is limited to 32.
- Decimal size is bounded (T1-3).
- XML base64 is checked before it is decoded.
- XML arrays are checked before each element is read.
- **CPU and algorithmic cost:**
- UADP reassembly uses an O(1) overlap check with a per-message chunk
cap (U1-2).
- PubSub JSON matches fields to metadata through a name index (P1-2).
- LocalizedText "mul" text is parsed lazily (T1-5).
- Unknown SecurityTokenIds trigger a throttled background SKS refresh
instead of an inline call per datagram (U1-9).
- **PubSub metadata poisoning (P1-1).** Inbound metadata is registered
only for identities a configured reader expects, is capped, and an
unauthenticated message can no longer pin a version.
- **Exception contract.** Decoders fail with `ServiceResultException`
(BadDecodingError / BadEncodingLimitsExceeded) instead of letting
ArgumentException, InvalidOperationException, TypeLoadException and
similar escape.
- **UASC (S1-*):**
- OPN and CLO must be single final chunks.
- The certificate of an unsigned OPN is ignored.
- The padding and ExtraPadding bytes are validated.
- A renewed token is activated only after a chunk has been verified with
it.
- A policy change on renewal is rejected before the channel certificate
is touched.
- Secured chunk length arithmetic is bounded.
## Wire-visible behaviour changes
All follow the spec exactly; there is no reader for the old forms unless
noted.
- **UA Binary:**
- Variant type ids 26-31 decode as ByteString.
- Picoseconds without their timestamp are ignored, and values of 10000
and above are clamped to 9999.
- A Null-type Variant with the array flag consumes its length and
dimensions.
- **UA JSON:**
- Messages are ExtensionObjects with the body inline; there is no
`UaBody` envelope any more (5.4.9 / 5.4.2.16).
- The Variant `Value` is omitted exactly for NULLs of nullable types
(Table 41).
- RawData keeps nested UaType/UaTypeId and the StatusCode Symbol.
- Duplicate member names are rejected.
- `{}` decodes as a null ExtensionObject.
- Numbers and identifiers are parsed strictly and culture-independently.
- QualifiedName follows 5.4.2.14.
- Opaque bodies of known types carry the DataType id.
- Enumerations without a literal are written as the number.
- **UA XML:**
- The earliest DateTime is written as `0001-01-01T00:00:00Z`.
- Null typed scalars and null array elements are written with `xsi:nil`.
- An ExtensionObject without a body has no `Body` element.
- Strings XML cannot represent are rejected.
- Only the xs:dateTime and xs:date forms are accepted; a value without a
zone is still read as UTC, because published model files use it.
- Only the Part 6 Guid form is accepted.
- Booleans are case-sensitive in XmlDecoder.
- **UA-TCP:**
- OPNC/OPNA/CLOC/CLOA fault the channel. Older releases that split a
long-chain OPN into chunks are rejected, so this needs a release note.
- The sender truncates the certificate chain to fit a single chunk.
- The received certificate chain is sized from the chunk size.
- Hello buffer sizes down to 1024 bytes are honoured; below that, an ERR
with Bad_TcpInternalError is sent.
- A 4096-byte Error reason is accepted, and the SecurityPolicyUri limit
is 255 bytes.
- **PubSub UADP:**
- Chunk NetworkMessages use the Part 14 7.2.4.4.4 layout, and each chunk
is secured on its own with its own sequence number.
- The Sizes array is part of the secured payload.
- Padded RawData keeps its length prefix, and null values are written as
-1.
- DataSetMessages with the valid bit clear are skipped.
- Null discovery arrays are accepted.
- **PubSub JSON:**
- Variants use `UaType`/`Value`, with the 7.2.5.4.2 top-level collapse.
The deprecated `Type`/`Body` form is still read.
- Status is written as a `{Code,Symbol}` object; a numeric Status is
still accepted.
- Discovery messages follow Tables 188-192, with GUID MessageIds.
- Enumeration fields are written as `Name_Value`.
- Fields appended with a MinorVersion bump are accepted.
## Known deviations and limitations (documented, not changed)
- A known type whose ExtensionObject XML body fails to decode fails the
message, like a failing binary body. 5.2.2.15 only says the decoder
*should* continue, and continuing reopens the log-flooding path.
- Reserved Variant type ids 26-31 are passed to the application as
ByteString without the raw type id.
- JSON UaTypeId of an opaque body of an *unknown* type stays the
encoding id, because no type system is available to map it.
- PubSub JSON encoder:
- Structure fields without a subtype are still wrapped with a UaType,
and concrete multi-dimensional or abstract-rank fields still carry a
UaType (Table 186).
- Namespace-0 enumerations without EnumDataTypes are written as a
numeric string.
- Chunked transcoded frames have no writer group, so their sequence
numbers continue from the source number.
- Pre-existing and out of scope: the HTTPS JSON binding uses
Content-Type `application/opcua+uajson`, while 1.05 7.4.5 requires
`application/json`.
## Tests
- Every fix has a regression test.
- Tests that pinned non-conformant behaviour were updated, and their
commit messages say so.
- Fuzz seeds were regenerated where the wire changed.
Local results:

Add a documentation learning path and fix issues found while verifying it (#4555)
## Summary
### Documentation
- Stage the documentation index as a learning path: a first application,
independent client, server, and PubSub paths, then data and services,
companion models, production, advanced integration, and draft or
experimental capabilities.
- Add Getting started (repository samples or NuGet packages), OPC UA
concepts, Your first information model, and a production readiness
checklist.
- Add Native AOT application publishing, a first PubSub publisher and
subscriber exchange, and the UDP transport options.
- Add or expand contents navigation throughout `docs/`, and keep
contributor documentation separate.
- Correct outdated SDK examples and capability guidance, consolidate
repeated explanations into canonical guides, and repair local links and
heading structure.
- Rewrite What's New in 2.0 as a concise feature overview with short
linked details; keep migration instructions in the Migration Guide.
- Expand the feature catalogue with specification IDs, GDS, LDS, the OPC
10000-21 onboarding registrar, ISA-95, xRegistry, OpenUSD, and
sample-local models; distinguish draft status, explain crypto
pluggability, and bring performance guidance forward.
- Address review feedback on wording, active monitored items during
shadow reload, and the `Samples.md` filename and references.
- Regenerate the `opcua-v20-migration` plugin's bundled copy of the
migration guides so it matches the edited `docs/migrate/2.0.x` guides.
- Merge the latest `master`, preserving upstream resource-isolation
guidance within the task-based documentation index.
- Retain deferred Lingity findings where appropriate; this PR does not
claim that every document meets the Lingity score thresholds.
### Fixes found while verifying the guides
Each fix has regression tests that fail without it.
- **Client:** V2 subscriptions compared their lifetime with the
operation timeout instead of the session timeout, and logged a spurious
warning. `ISubscriptionEngineContext`, which is new in 2.0, gains a
`SessionTimeout` property; implementations must add it.
- **PubSub:** a subscriber now registers the `DataSetMetaData`
configured on its readers (OPC 10000-14 6.2.9.4), and the UADP decoder
decodes DataSetMessages that carry no ConfigurationVersion. Before, a
secured subscriber of the reference sample received no DataSets.
- **Source generator:** a ModelDesign method that declares its arguments
inline, without a method type, produced code that did not compile; it
now uses `MethodState`. The generated code of existing models is
unchanged.
- **MinimalClient sample:** waits for its first data-change notification
before it disconnects.
### Known issues, not addressed here
- UDP multicast: the publisher does not send on the interface that the
subscriber joins, and `MulticastLoopback` defaults to false. The PubSub
guide uses unicast for the exchange on one computer.
- The UDP metadata announcement is sent unsecured on secured writer
groups; a secured subscriber drops it with a warning.
- A server does not start in globalization-invariant mode, because
`ResourceManager` creates `CultureInfo("en-US")`. The Native AOT guide
cautions against the mode.
## Validation
- `git diff --check` and
`./.azurepipelines/validate-migration-plugin.ps1` (15 bundled migration
docs validated, plugin manifests synchronized).
- Local Markdown links, anchors, file-link casing, and contents lists
checked across all 87 documents under `docs/`. The index links every
top-level guide and every target of the previous index.
- Both Getting started routes, Your first information model, the PubSub
exchange, and the Native AOT publish of the Getting started client and
server were run as documented. The NuGet route and the tutorial use the
public `2.0.0-preview.5` packages.
- The changed libraries build for all target frameworks in Release
without warnings.
- Tests on .NET 10: Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Tests 199 passed;
Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests 3,977 passed, 8 skipped;
Opc.Ua.Server.Tests `Fluent` category 621 passed; Opc.Ua.Client.Tests
subscription-engine tests 70 passed; Opc.Ua.PubSub.Tests 1,374 passed, 2
skipped; PubSub fuzz replay 145 passed. The new and affected tests also
pass on .NET Framework 4.8.
- Earlier merge validation: 174 resource-isolation tests passed on .NET
10.
- The full solution suite was not run locally.
Review and validation artifacts are maintained outside the repository.

Additional fuzzing plus fixes for every defect the campaigns found (#4459)
# Description
Brings the stack's fuzz testing to parity with the fork
(`aio-opcua-sdk`), then fixes every defect the resulting campaigns
exposed.
The fork's fuzzing was used as the behavioural baseline: all **28
fork-local callbacks** and **13 OneFuzz registrations** are now
accounted for by an explicit mapping, not just by a larger target count.
The work extends the existing SharpFuzz/NUnit infrastructure rather than
introducing another framework.
### Coverage
- **84 continuous libFuzzer targets** and **81 AFL adapters** across
Encoders, Certificates, Network and PubSub.
- **PubSub area integrated** (Corpus/Tools/Tests siblings, solution
entries) — it previously had host source only and was absent from the
solution and replay infrastructure.
- Segmented binary adapters, binary-to-JSON and XML-to-JSON conversions,
standalone certificate loading, both chain-parser variants, CRL encoding
and canonical TBS round-trips.
- The 12 original fork message inputs are retained byte-identically
alongside richer deterministic generators; the three historical
crash/slow/timeout reproducers are unchanged (verified identical by
SHA-256).
### Production fixes found by fuzzing
These are real robustness and data-integrity bugs, each with a retained
regression input:
- `UadpBinaryReader.Advance` accepted attacker-controlled lengths on the
receive path. Declared payload sizes are now authoritative bounded
sections, with negative-count rejection and overflow-safe reassembly
arithmetic.
- PubSub JSON decoding leaked `InvalidOperationException` for invalid
UTF-8.
- `JsonEncoder.WriteExtensionObject` leaked
`System.Text.Json.JsonReaderException`.
- `JsonEncoder` silently emitted a lossy `{}` for an `ExtensionObject`
whose TypeId could not be represented in JSON.
- `JsonDecoder` wrapped a bodyless `ExtensionObject` envelope as a raw
JSON body instead of preserving `ExtensionObjectEncoding.None`.
- `Node.Encode` lost the null/empty collection distinction.
- Binary/XML Variant matrix dimensions are prevalidated rather than
relying on a caught `ArgumentException`.
- `X509CRL.ReadTime` pre-validates strict RFC 5280 whole-second Zulu
time forms.
- `Utils.ParseCertificateChainBlob` disposes correctly on partial-chain
failure.
- **`nodeid.dict` was unloadable by libFuzzer** (empty token, unescaped
quote). libFuzzer rejects the whole file on one bad line, so four parser
targets silently executed **zero** inputs. Fixed and now guarded by
dictionary validation.
### Infrastructure
- `fuzzing/fuzz-targets.json` manifest recording adapters, corpora,
dictionaries, oracles and fork-behaviour mappings, with
`validate-fuzz-manifest.ps1` and **27 negative controls**.
- Strict host/tools discovery and replay: `--list`, `--replay`, non-zero
exits on unknown targets, missing or empty corpora, and failed callbacks
(playback previously logged failures and returned success).
- A real process watchdog for the timeout/slow regressions — NUnit
`CancelAfter` cannot interrupt a synchronous fuzz callback.
- Runner scripts made non-destructive (unique work directories, no
generic `bin`/findings deletion) and corrected to the native driver's
single-`--target_arg` apphost contract.
- Opt-in `OneFuzz=true` class-library publication producing a
relocatable, **uninstrumented** drop, validated by exact callback
discovery, dependency closure, corpora and dictionaries.
- CI: fuzz replay matrix plus a public drop gate, triggered by corpus-,
dictionary- and script-only changes.
### Verification
| Gate | Result |
|---|---|
| Bounded campaigns, all 84 targets (1,000 inputs, seed 1) | 84/84,
84,000 executions, zero findings |
| OneFuzz drop | 84/84 published callbacks replayed, zero skips |
| Fuzz replay net10.0 / net8.0 / net9.0 | 9,470 passed each, 0 failed |
| Fuzz replay net48 | 8,996 passed, 0 failed (Network/PubSub are
modern-only) |
| `Opc.Ua.Types.Tests` / `Opc.Ua.Core.Tests` | 9,800 and 4,442 passed, 0
failed |
| Retained regression assets | 132 `crash-*` inputs replayed by every
target each run |
### Known gaps (deliberately not closed)
- **Fidelity is not enforced against the pipeline crash corpus.** The
differential binary-to-JSON targets assert both robustness (no unhandled
exception, expected of arbitrary bytes) and fidelity (a decoded value
re-encodes equivalently, a property of well formed values). The pipeline
supplies 22,293 blobs collected for the targets that existed before this
PR, none of which asserted fidelity; 522 of them violate it, and that
count did not move across two rounds of genuine fixes because each fix
only lets the mutator reach the next representability gap. Rather than
weaken the assertion, the two contracts are separated: fidelity failures
raise `EncodingFidelityException`; curated assets under `Assets/Repo`,
the curated `Testcases` corpus and every continuous libFuzzer campaign
stay strictly enforced, while externally supplied assets are gated on
robustness only and their fidelity findings are reported with counts and
bounded base64 reproducers.
- **Internal MSFT OneFuzz canary has not been run.** It needs an
owner-supplied ownership profile, pipeline authorisation and corpus
snapshot; none were available. The drop builds and validates locally and
records `serviceCanaryPerformed: false`. A build or upload is not a
successful worker run.
- **Legacy JSON wire forms are a partial mapping.** The fork accepts its
four original `TypeId`/`Body` messages; this stack rejects that retired
envelope (measured JSON-only control: fork `JsonEncoder` 630/1356 lines
vs 0/1007 here). Recorded as an explicit unresolved mapping rather than
an exemption. `LegacyNonReversible` is a RawData-derived profile and is
not counted as independent coverage.
