Fix server/core validation, lifecycle and protocol regressions (#4477)
# Description **Server/core audit fixes with regression tests. Latest review-fix validation, merge validation and earlier acceptance results are distinguished below.** This addresses a 95-finding server/core report. Every finding was reviewed with the OPC UA specification knowledge base or, where the standard does not prescribe a C# implementation, the corresponding ownership/configuration contract. Incorrect or withdrawn subclaims remain qualified rather than being presented as additional fixes. The original checkpoint covers session identity/certificate validation and revocation; certificate/key ownership and transactional updates; TCP reconnect, receive/admission and buffer lifetime; HTTP quotas; subscription admission, durability and pooled payloads; file-operation lifecycle; historian aggregates; fluent/state-machine behavior; and related utilities. It includes targeted regressions and directly related documentation. The approved acceptance cleanup is separate in the commit history: | Cleanup | Verified result | | --- | --- | | Invalid identity-policy and KeyCredential fixture inputs | Fixtures explicitly advertise Username and use its generated policy ID. Credential persistence uses valid clear mode inside the existing encrypted admin context. Original permission, lockout and negative encryption assertions remain. | | Native GDS lifetime and concurrent connection failures | Retain ApplicationInstance until client teardown. A deterministic native reproducer proved the test-only channel cap of 10 was exhausted; removing that override restores the existing bounded default of 1000. No global serialization or production quota change. | | Stress certificate ownership and close accounting | Balance two helper references and the fake transport's server-certificate ownership. Replace the invalid event-count bound with exactly-once physical disposal, opens = closes, zero active entries and one logical entry lifetime. | | Participant deadlines | Use the injected TimeProvider with the existing cross-framework WaitAsync overload. Tests pin one tick before, exact expiry, terminal notification, recovery and timely completion. | | Reproducibility and platform assertions | Preserve canonical WoT bytes/hashes, explicit display-culture contracts and exact numeric-vector assertions. Accept Apple's CryptographicException subtype without weakening disposal balance. | | Missing user-signature proof | Reject null/empty proofs before OS crypto. Return BadUserSignatureInvalid per Part 4, 5.7.3.3. None-policy and valid-signature controls remain. A CI-only test nullable-context error was corrected without changing production behavior. | | Durable sample restore and shared test storage | Dequeue waits for actual batch residency instead of treating failed restore completion as success, and restored files close before deletion. Five deterministic regressions failed before the fix. The two fixtures that clear the shared batch directory are isolated; all original 3,000-item assertions remain unchanged. | ## Latest review follow-up Commit `828856850219518970e8e2f580b8f94b3c1fc748` fixes the deferred robotics disposal reported in the latest review. `RobotIntentNodeManager.DisposeAsync` now joins a shared controller-host drain and then explicitly awaits base node-manager disposal. A controller's bounded shutdown wait may defer its cleanup, but no longer lets the node-manager override finish early. Concurrent callers, including an asynchronous call after synchronous `Dispose`, cannot bypass the drain after the host list has been detached. Synchronous disposal remains nonblocking for deferred work. Deferred initialization failures are logged and retained, and base cleanup failures propagate to asynchronous callers. The existing controller-level bounded disposal contract is unchanged; the node-manager contract is documented in `docs/Robotics.md`. | Regression requirement | Evidence | | --- | --- | | Wait for deferred hosts; preserve synchronous compatibility and concurrent joins | `NodeManagerAsyncDisposalWaitsForDeferredHostsAsync`: four cases covering both entry-point orders and zero/positive host shutdown waits. All four failed before the fix. | | Wait through base cleanup and observe failures | `NodeManagerDisposalWaitsForBaseCleanupAndReportsItsFailureAsync`: four cases hold the actual base-resource semaphore, verify pending callers after the host finishes, then check success or the same propagated exception and exactly-once cleanup. | The focused `IntentHostingCoverageTests` and `IntentControllerHostTests.Dispose` selection passed **30/30 on net10.0 and 30/30 on net48**, with no failures or skips. The final net10 solution build passed with zero errors and only the four previously documented CA2249 warnings in unchanged fuzz-test code. No new warnings, analyzer suppressions, dependencies, or weakened assertions were added. The review thread received a commit-specific reply and was explicitly resolved. This verification is scoped to the robotics feedback; the earlier full Subscriptions-run limitation remains recorded in the merge section below. ## Documentation review follow-up (2026-09-14) Commit `f9a9686fcc5d3cfd19cbbc8c2d826e20f5c7e72f` addresses the six follow-up threads on documentation and implementation rationale. Each has an in-thread reply citing the commit and an explicit resolution. Multiline XML documentation now covers the declarations introduced or modified throughout the entire PR, including internal contracts, samples, tests, and public members of related private helpers. A syntax-aware inventory checked **2,031 declarations across all 256 PR C# paths with zero documentation gaps**. A supplementary check also covers **75 previously unchanged public members** of private helpers involved in the changed code. Token comparison across the conditional-compilation branches proves this follow-up changes **no executable C# or test assertions**. Project-file changes are rationale comments only. The implementation questions are documented at their source: | Question | Resolution | | --- | --- | | Certificate assembly friendship | Server Push configuration reuses the internal explicit-subject CSR helper with the existing key; no public crypto API was added. | | Core.Types assembly friendship | Server builders use internal transition callbacks/revision guards; Server.Tests checks the revision deterministically without creating a public compatibility contract. | | Always-single-reader notifications | One dequeuer preserves event order; optional concurrency fans out within one event and joins before the next event. | | Asynchronous disposal completion | `DisposeAsync` already joins the completion published after admitted operations and all cleanup attempts. The compatibility `Dispose` remains nonblocking to avoid deadlocking an admitted callback against its own drain. | The requested detailed review disposition follows. It distinguishes actual fixes from confirmed policies and incorrect subclaims rather than counting every comment as a new runtime change. ### Detailed disposition of review 5191795284 The [SDK review](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/pull/4477#pullrequestreview-5191795284) was submitted against `1c4a9df6c`, before the subsequent merge and feedback fixes. Its **15 inline threads** have each received an action-specific reply and an explicit resolution. A fresh GraphQL query verified those replies and resolution states; the fixes in `b8a59990f` remain ancestors of the current branch. | Review concern | Action and disposition | Concrete regression evidence | | --- | --- | --- | | Injected certificate-store providers bypassed | **Fixed.** Registration, configuration snapshots, and validation use the injected providers. Explicit custom types remain authoritative; the built-in Directory catch-all is deferred so native X509 paths and later custom providers are not captured. Failed store opens dispose the created store. | `InjectedProviderResolvesRegisteredAndConfiguredTrustStores` covers default-provider ordering and both registration paths; provider validation/open-failure cases and the unchanged `TrustedCertificateInjectedViaIndependentX509StoreIsObservedAsync` cover real use and independent-store visibility. | | Unguarded timer-thread leadership callbacks | **Fixed.** Each subscriber's exception is logged independently and cannot suppress subsequent subscribers or fail lease operations. `IsLeader` reads the deadline without invoking application callbacks. | `ThrowingLeadershipSubscriberDoesNotFailAcquireOrDisposeAsync`, `ExpiryNotifiesOtherSubscribersWhenOneThrowsAsync`, and `IsLeaderDoesNotDispatchExpiryNotificationsAsync` were all demonstrated failing before the fix. | | Legacy pending-key provider accepts an unfinishable regenerated CSR | **Fixed by explicit capability validation.** A provider implementing only `IPendingCertificateKeyStore` receives `BadNotSupported` before key generation or persistence when regeneration is requested. Existing-key CSR/update remains supported. Regeneration requires matching-only consumption; no unsafe destructive probing was introduced. | `LegacyPendingProviderRejectsRegenerationBeforeCreatingOrSavingAKeyAsync` checks no key or store mutation; `LegacyPendingProviderCompletesExistingKeySigningAndUpdateAsync` proves the supported flow completes. | | Shutdown waits behind user deactivation | **Fixed.** Accepted deactivations drain before the master's lifecycle gate is taken. Configuration retains its binding until the shared drain completes, including concurrent shutdown callers and direct master disposal. | Four cases of `ShutdownDrainsDeactivationOutsideTheSessionClosingGateAsync` exercise real configuration/binding/ServerInternalData/master reentry, retained address space, exact session/subscription closure, and no production cancellation shortcut. | | Subclass cleanup runs under the operation-lifetime lock | **Fixed.** Cleanup starts outside that lock. A pre-published completion joins all disposers, and only the active asynchronous teardown context may use guarded helpers. Captured contexts lose that privilege when the callback exits. | `SynchronousOwnedCleanupLetsSamplingWorkerReachClosedAdmissionAsync`, `DisposeCoreCanUseGuardedMembersWithoutReopeningCallerAdmissionAsync`, captured-context rejection, and exact cleanup-failure/ownership assertions cover both synchronous and suspended cleanup. | | Discovery requestId-zero chunk read after pool return | **Fixed by the earlier merge.** Discovery validation precedes `SaveIntermediateChunk`; no read occurs after that path can return the buffer. The ordering is retained. | `DiscoveryChannelReadsTheFirstChunkBeforeItIsReturnedAsync` uses a poisoning pool and the requestId-zero path. | | T1.8 OPN cleanup misses post-decryption throws | **Fixed by the earlier merge and pinned with new regressions.** Both sequence rejection and certificate mismatch release the decrypted body and input ownership. | `OpenSecureChannelRejectionAfterDecryptionReturnsEveryRentalAsync` checks the exact audit status and pool conservation. Omitting either corresponding release in an isolated snapshot made its case fail; no mutation remains. | | T1.2 mount-root protection depends on the provider | **Fixed at the host boundary.** Separator-only aliases resolve to the protected root. Traversal, empty/whitespace segments, backslashes, and drive/stream qualifiers are rejected before arbitrary providers are invoked. Valid nested paths and root destinations remain supported. | A deliberately permissive provider is used by `NonCanonicalObjectPathsCannotDeleteMoveOrCopyAsync` and invalid-target cases; exact zero-call checks are paired with legitimate nested-path/root-destination controls. | | Inline trusted/issuer entries now face CRL checks | **Intentional strict behavior, documented and tested.** A configured backing store with strict unknown-status rejection requires current revocation information. Explicit-only lists without a store retain their no-store behavior. Actual revocation cannot be suppressed; a matching store entry's policy takes precedence. | `InlineIssuerWithStoreHonorsStrictUnknownRevocationPolicyAsync`, `InlineIssuerRevocationIsNeverSuppressedAsync`, store-precedence cases, and explicit-only controls preserve the missing-information versus actual-revocation distinction in Part 4 6.1.3. | | RSA minimum applied to unspecified ECC identifiers | **Fixed at the application-certificate check.** The RSA minimum is compared only with an actual RSA public key. An unspecified ECC identity is not replaced simply because its key size is below an RSA threshold. | `SilentCertificateCheckPreservesUnspecifiedEccIdentityAsync` checks DER, thumbprint, store contents, and private-key retention; explicit RSA and HTTPS minimum controls remain. | | Failed directory refresh wedges corrective mutations | **Fixed.** Recoverable automatic pre-refresh failures are logged and leave reconciliation pending, but do not block corrective provider mutations. Explicit refresh errors, capacity admission, caller cancellation, and actual provider denials remain enforced. | `CorrectiveDeleteRecoversAfterPersistentOverLimitRefreshFailureAsync` converges an externally over-limit directory back to its exact allowed contents. Capacity, cancellation/token, and six refresh-error controls check negative paths. | | Timed-transition rejection logs at 10 Hz | **Fixed.** Repeated `(state, revision, status)` warnings are deduplicated without changing the retry cadence. A different status or state entry permits another warning. | `RepeatedTimedRejectionLogsOnceAndRecoversAsync` checks one warning over eleven rejections and success on the next attempt. Status-change and same/different-state reentry controls pin reset behavior. | | Bad unsubscribe strands retired-generation bookkeeping | **Fixed.** Retired all-event bookkeeping completes even when unsubscribe reports Bad; the first Bad is still returned to the caller. | Good and BadCommunicationError cases of `RetiredAllEventsDeletionCompletesBookkeepingAndReleasesGenerationAsync` check event/snapshot removal, generation release, and exactly one unsubscribe without finalization replay. | | CSR subject parsing and fallback | **Fixed for existing and regenerated keys.** Omitted subjects fall back to the actual stored certificate. Regeneration resolves the public certificate's subject before creating a key. Malformed or unresolvable subjects return `BadInvalidArgument` before pending-key mutation. | Store-only fallback, real-generator null/empty cases, and missing-subject/malformed-DN controls verify the signed CSR, matching fresh pending key, unchanged active identity, and no destructive side effects. | | Committed RemoveUser change reported as failed | **Fixed for RemoveUser and ModifyUser.** Accepted cleanup is still awaited and close failures remain logged, but cannot replace the committed mutation result. Precommit failures retain their original result and side effects. | `CommittedUserChangeKeepsResultAndPublishedUsersWhenCloseFailsAsync` checks published Users, Good result, logging, and continued closes. `FailedUserChangeKeepsPublishedUsersAndDoesNotCloseSessionsAsync` checks BadNotFound with no publication or close. | | Alleged pooled decoded-request aliasing | **No runtime redesign needed; reviewer rebuttal confirmed.** The decoder copies the relevant input data. Misleading ownership comments were corrected rather than introducing a new dispatch model. | `DecodedRequestRetainsValuesAfterInputBuffersAreReturnedAsync` checks the exact decoded NodeId and ByteString after returned arrays are poisoned. | The current documentation-only follow-up rechecked **104 Core, 473 Server, and 4 Configuration cases** covering these concerns: **581 passed, zero failed or skipped**. The final net10 solution build also passed with **zero warnings and errors**. The complete earlier Core/Server/Configuration and net48 results remain listed separately rather than being presented as rerun current-head acceptance. ## Earlier review follow-up Commit `b8a59990fe2e8e967a12ffd5d9158beed7831143` addresses all 19 review threads. Each thread has an in-thread reply naming this commit and was explicitly resolved after verification; the final paginated query found 19 resolved and zero unresolved threads. The follow-up fixes injected certificate-store selection (including default provider ordering and native X509 paths), actual-RSA minimum enforcement, and CSR capability/subject validation before key mutation. Node-manager teardown uses simpler scoped ownership and drains accepted user revocation outside the master gate; committed user results and retired-event cleanup remain correct when cleanup reports failure. File mutations can recover after failed refresh without bypassing capacity or cancellation, provider paths protect mount roots, and repeated timed rejections no longer flood logs. Leadership subscriber failures are isolated without callbacks from `IsLeader`. Regressions also pin the already-merged OPN/discovery buffer fixes and prove decoded request values do not borrow returned input buffers. The strict inline issuer revocation policy is documented and tested, not weakened. Existing tests were changed only for the reviewed behavior: the incorrect committed-user result was corrected, and inline-issuer/root-alias controls were expanded. ### Review-fix validation | Suite | Scope | Framework | Passed | Existing TRX NotExecuted | | --- | --- | --- | ---: | ---: | | Core | Complete project | net10.0 | 4,970 | 88 | | Server | Complete project | net10.0 | 6,414 | 69 | | Configuration | Complete project | net10.0 | 231 | 0 | | Core | Certificate, lease and buffer compatibility slice | net48 | 153 | 0 | | Server | Reviewed lifecycle, user, file, timer and CSR compatibility slice | net48 | 692 | 0 | | Configuration | Complete project | net48 | 231 | 0 | | CSR provider regressions | Final portable-mock follow-up | net10.0 | 11 | 0 | All runs exited successfully with normal concurrency and leak detection. The Server console reports 5 skips; its TRX additionally records existing assumption/explicit cases, hence the 69-record count above. The Framework build caught two modern-only `ValueTask.CompletedTask` usages in new mock setup; only those expressions changed to the equivalent portable `default(ValueTask)`. The complete modern suites precede that test-only correction; all production files remained byte-identical, and the corrected fixture passed on both targets. The final net10 solution build succeeded with 0 errors and the same 4 CA2249 warnings in unchanged fuzz-test code. Diff checks and changed-line whitespace checks are clean; whole-file formatting still identifies 10 unchanged baseline lines, which were not reformatted outside the feedback scope. The committed 35-file tree was hash-verified against the validation inputs. This is the review-feedback verification scope, not a rerun or sign-off of the historical complete platform/native/soak acceptance campaign below. ## Latest upstream merge Merge `9d9bf679f317164c5b2b90924cd3cdc27a86d451` integrates `master` through `162fc5ebb` (#4486), including the AddNodes child-name index, shared certificate-error reporting, CTT sample-data corrections, and the accompanying regressions and documentation. The CreateSession conflict preserves this branch's certificate ownership, required certificate, application-URI, and channel-certificate checks. The validation result now retains nested errors through `ThrowIfInvalid`, allowing the upstream shared reporting helper to mask trust, policy, and revocation failures consistently without losing audit detail. The new indexed AddNodes regression initially attempted to reuse a deterministic NodeId after renaming its existing node. Renaming frees the BrowseName, not that NodeId. `IndexedBrowseNameReusePreservesExistingNodeIdentityAsync` now proves both contracts: the derived-ID collision leaves the original node intact, then a fresh explicitly requested ID can reuse the old name while the new name remains protected against duplicates. No production identity rule was relaxed. The incoming seeded random-index test uses the existing `UnsecureRandom` wrapper with the same seed and sequence; no new analyzer suppression was added. | Local merge validation | Framework | Passed | Existing exclusions | | --- | --- | ---: | ---: | | Core, complete project | net10.0 | 5,081 | 88 | | NodeState / BaseInstanceState | net10.0 | 579 | 0 | | Server node management, certificate and session-security selection | net10.0 | 112 | 0 | | InformationModel node-management services | net10.0 | 29 | 1 | | NodeState / BaseInstanceState | net48 | 578 | 0 | | Core certificate validation, error reporting and TCP buffers | net48 | 111 | 0 | | Server node management, certificate and session-security selection | net48 | 112 | 0 | All selected runs exited successfully at normal concurrency: **6,602 passing test executions**. Modified test assemblies were explicitly rebuilt, and the combined name/identity regression was verified by name in both net10 and net48 results. No skips or weakened assertions were introduced. The final `dotnet build UA.slnx -c Release --no-restore -m:1` with `CustomTestTarget=net10.0` succeeded with **zero warnings and zero errors**. The resolved source and adjusted tests pass whitespace verification, and their source hashes match the validation inputs. This is merge-specific verification. Earlier review results and the previously reported incomplete full Subscriptions runs below remain scoped to their own commits; they were not reopened or relabeled as passing by this operation. ## Previous upstream merge (2026-09-15 morning) Merge `c4694e20ab089c555af233642042133ff3a03ac8` integrates `master` through `484d6c887`, retaining #4481's shared Like parser/GDS query fixes, #4488's RequestHandle recovery in ServiceFaults, and #4487's expired-session and durable-transfer corrections. Three conflict resolutions preserve both sides: - Alias searches now use the shared `LikePattern` implementation, including upstream malformed-list validation. A timeout overload retains this branch's 100 ms per-alias deadline and `BadTimeout` reporting without keeping a second wildcard translator. The shared matcher's original unlimited overload remains unchanged for existing GDS/ContentFilter callers. New regressions cover bounded prefix/list scans, reuse after timeout, and the alias service result. - Expired activation closes outside the session-manager gate using upstream's once-only timeout claim, audit, and diagnostic accounting. This branch's original-channel and security-policy checks remain in place. - TCP buffer tests retain this branch's ownership, poisoning-pool and post-decryption checks alongside the upstream RequestHandle/fault overload tests; neither set was discarded. The upstream HTTPS binary behavior is intentionally retained: a decoder `ServiceResultException` produces HTTP 200 with an OPC UA ServiceFault carrying the decoder status, response timestamp, and recoverable RequestHandle, rather than the previous HTTP 500 text response. Other exceptions retain their existing HTTP error handling. | Local validation | Framework | Passed | TRX NotExecuted | | --- | --- | ---: | ---: | | Core, complete project | net10.0 | 5,054 | 88 | | Sessions, complete project | net10.0 | 780 | 610 | | Server aliases, expiry/security and subscriptions | net10.0 | 288 | 0 | | GDS database, paging and live directory calls | net10.0 | 263 | 0 | | Shared Like patterns and bounded evaluation | net10.0 | 109 | 0 | | Subscriptions transfer/durability/service selection | net10.0 | 23 | 1 | | HTTPS WebApi, complete project | net10.0 | 346 | 0 | | InformationModel aliases | net10.0 | 54 | 5 | | Shared Like patterns and bounded evaluation | net48 | 109 | 0 | | Core fault handles, TCP/HTTPS and filters | net48 | 268 | 0 | | Server aliases, expiry/security and subscriptions | net48 | 288 | 0 | These selected runs exited successfully with normal test concurrency: **7,582 passing test executions**. Sessions' console reports 379 skips; the TRX also contains conditional/assumption exclusions, so the table uses the actual 610 NotExecuted records. No skips or weakened assertions were added. The new `EvaluationTimeoutBoundsWorkAndPreservesPatternReuse` and `SharedPatternTimeoutRemainsAnAliasServiceError` tests passed on both targets. **Validation limitation:** two unfiltered Subscriptions runs did not produce a final result and were stopped, including a retry with a hang guard. They are not counted as passing. The isolated failover fixture passed 2/2, and the transfer/durability/service selection above passed. The stall's cause was not established; no unrelated code or test was changed to conceal it. The final `dotnet build UA.slnx -c Release --no-restore -m:1` with `CustomTestTarget=net10.0` succeeded with **0 warnings and 0 errors**. Whitespace verification passed for all hand-reconciled files, and staged source hashes match the validation inputs. These are merge-specific checks, not a new full platform/native/soak acceptance sign-off. Earlier review and acceptance evidence below remains dated to its own commit. ## Previous upstream merge (2026-09-14) Merge `c3e09553e4d1509502d4ba751960d58491bea2cf` integrates `master` through `6313e38a0` (#4478), including the CTT-driven Part 13 aggregate corrections and FindAlias argument validation. The upstream tests and CTT documentation are retained. The single conflict in `AliasNameWildcardMatcher` is reconciled through the branch's shared regex compiler: upstream malformed-pattern rejection and `IsValidPattern` coexist with OPC UA character escaping, whole-string/newline matching, the 100 ms timeout, and service-level error reporting. The upstream ReferenceTypeFilter checks and chronological aggregate behavior are preserved. Local merge verification: | Suite / selection | Framework | Passed | Existing skips | | --- | --- | ---: | ---: | | Server aliases, aggregates and historian | net10.0 | 1,011 | 0 | | Server aliases, aggregates and historian | net48 | 1,011 | 0 | | InformationModel aliases | net10.0 | 54 | 5 | | Features aliases | net10.0 | 11 | 0 | | Client aliases | net10.0 | 28 | 0 | | History aggregate/historical-access consumers | net10.0 | 265 | 0 | All selected tests passed at normal concurrency. The final net10 solution build passed with 0 errors and 0 warnings. The resolved file's whitespace check and the staged diff check passed. These are merge-specific checks, not a new full platform/native/soak acceptance claim. ## Previous upstream merges Integrates `master` through `8e874d073`, including the Client, Types, Core and source-generator audit fixes in #4471, #4473, #4474 and #4475, plus the event queue-size revision from #4480. The merge commits are `150ea0439` (26 conflict resolutions) and `a0e17c07c` (the base update that arrived during validation). The overlapping fixes are reconciled rather than replacing either branch: - **Rejected-certificate retention follows this branch, as explicitly requested:** zero means unlimited history; negative values disable new storage while preserving existing backend trimming behavior (Directory clears prior history; shared key/value leaves it intact). The processor and manager policy are not redefined, and documentation/tests describe the distinction. - Preserve owned certificate snapshots and borrowed validation-core lifetimes alongside upstream cache invalidation, store-first CRL checks and `BadCertificateRevocationUnknown` for unsupported revocation lookup. - Combine exactly-once chunk ownership, receive-loop cancellation, stale-epoch rejection and detach-before-adoption with upstream signature-before-padding verification and secret cleanup. - Preserve pooled `HttpClient` per-request configuration together with bounded response reads and deadlines that remain active through body consumption. Regression cases exercise already-used clients and both timeout precedence cases. - Retain the binary-compatible channel-key constructor and normalize omitted profiles; preserve exact profile filtering and upstream binary-first HTTPS/WSS endpoint ordering. - Preserve monotonic lease expiry and stale-confirmation fencing while adding ordered, non-reentrant leadership notifications outside the state lock. ## Validation Local validation of the conflict-resolution merge: | Suite | Framework | Passed | Existing skips | | --- | --- | ---: | ---: | | Core | net10.0 | 4,940 | 88 | | Client | net10.0 | 2,278 | 0 | | Server | net10.0 | 6,088 | 5 | | Types | net10.0 | 10,394 | 1 | | SourceGeneration.Core | net10.0 | 3,940 | 8 | | SourceGeneration | net10.0 | 185 | 0 | | Core | net48 | 4,855 | 104 | After the subsequent four-file #4480 update, the related Server slice passed 811 tests with 5 existing skips, the real durable queue-size cases passed 6/6, and EventManager's 21 cases passed again after analyzer-only expected-array cleanup. The final `dotnet build UA.slnx -c Release` with `CustomTestTarget=net10.0` succeeded: 0 errors and 4 pre-existing CA2249 warnings in unchanged fuzz-test code. Whitespace verification passed for the resolved files and the follow-up. Merge-specific proof includes `RequestTimeoutRemainsActiveWhileReadingTheOpenApiBodyAsync` on already-used shared clients with either the request or HttpClient timeout shorter, the existing ownership/expiry regressions from both branches, and both branches' retention tests adjusted only to the explicitly chosen zero/negative contract. Earlier acceptance at `1c4a9df6c` passed hosted Linux/macOS CI, CodeQL, image builds and the canonical coverage gate (87.15% line, 77.27% branch, 92.14% patch). Both Framework project matrices, all three Windows native suites (183 cases), and the unfiltered net10 stress project (230 cases, including full 60-minute chaos and 30-minute memory soaks) also passed. Those are **pre-merge results**, not a claim that the full framework/platform/native/soak matrix has been rerun on this merge. The previous acceptance workflow remains separate from this review-feedback operation. Security checks, meaningful assertions, leak detection, default native concurrency, full soak durations and coverage thresholds remain intact. The user-set ready-for-review state is unchanged. No architectural or complete merged-head acceptance sign-off is claimed. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4476 ## Checklist - [ ] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [x] I have added tests that prove my fix is effective or that my feature works and increased code coverage. - [x] I have added all necessary documentation. - [x] I have verified that my changes do not introduce (new) build or analyzer warnings. - [ ] I ran **all** tests locally using the **UA.slnx** solution against at least .net **framework** and .net **10**, and all passed. - [ ] I fixed **all** failing and flaky tests in the CI pipelines and **all** CodeQL warnings. - [x] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. |

Preserve non-child hierarchical references during NodeSet import (#4491)
# Description Preserve forward and inverse same-namespace hierarchical references that are not already represented by the NodeSet importer's parent/child relationship. A reference is implicit only when both its endpoints and its exact reference type match the selected ownership relationship; additional links do not reparent their targets. Also fix the generated-reference duplication that blocked the previous attempt in #4473. Inherited and declared `NodeDesign` objects can differ structurally while resolving to the same runtime reference. Deduplicating by the emitted reference-type ID, direction, and target ID prevents identical `AddReference` calls from throwing during Robotics/OpenUSD startup. - Add 21 importer/generator regression cases, including a minimized recursive-placeholder reproduction of the startup failure. - Strengthen the reference-server test to check the original missing forward links, inverse counterparts, subtype filtering, and unchanged ownership. - Document ownership versus graph references in `docs/NodeManagers.md`. ## Validation Confirmed the missing-reference cases fail before the importer fix, and the minimized duplicate-reference case fails before the generator fix. The original Robotics/OpenUSD fixture passed before the changes, failed with the importer-only candidate, and passes with both fixes. | Suite | net10.0 | net48 | | --- | --- | --- | | SourceGeneration.Core.Tests | 3,961 passed; 8 existing skips | 3,961 passed; 8 existing skips | | SourceGeneration.Stack.Tests | 94 passed | 91 passed | | SourceGeneration.Tests | 185 passed | 185 passed | | Di.Tests, including all 17 RobotOpenUsdE2eTests | 425 passed | 425 passed | | ReferenceServerTests | 45 passed | 45 passed | Executed using `CustomTestTarget` with `dotnet test tools/SourceGeneration.slnx`, the Di test project, and the `ReferenceServerTests` filter in the Server test project. Scoped whitespace/style checks and `git diff --check` also passed for the changed code. Pre-existing analyzer diagnostics outside the changes were left untouched. The full `UA.slnx` test suite has not been run locally. CI and CodeQL results remain pending. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4484. - Addresses the hierarchical-reference limitation deliberately deferred in #4473. ## Checklist - [ ] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. |

Harden HA address-space hydration and replica-consistent NodeIds (#4445)
# Description Follow-up to #4390 for distributed address-space ownership, authoritative hydration, and replica-consistent wire NodeIds. Tracks #4444. Identity implementation: `a78d59067` (Server policy/lifecycle/adapter seam) and `07faf5cfd` (replica identity module, runtime wiring, examples and proofs). ## Replica identity - `UseReplicaNodeIdentity` / `ReplicaNodeIdFactory` reserve fixed shared namespace indexes before node-manager construction and reuse `DefaultNodeIdFactory`. ApplicationUri and built-in diagnostics/configuration remain local. - Replicated startup requires an explicit identity contract. Namespace layout, deterministic mode, replica-set identity and writer policy must agree. Standard factory views, replacement and registration preserve the policy. - Active/passive writer-assigned identities are replicated unchanged. Independent creation requires stable keys or explicit IDs. Live IDs and retained tombstones are reserved before writer allocation; no network/storage call runs in `New`. - Protected store descriptors use strong routing, including customized hybrid prefixes. Unknown legacy state and empty eventual scans cannot authorize automatic adoption. Verified-new hybrid provisioning is explicit. - Active/active frames compare the descriptor before CRDT merge. Rejected frames are not reported as applied; incompatible admission remains at ServiceLevel 0 through the standard service-level wiring. - Shared metadata validation covers type definitions, data types, references, permissions, NodeId/ExpandedNodeId/QualifiedName values, arrays/matrices, DataValues and encodeable structures/arguments, without reflection. - Runtime preparation hydrates retained IDs before replacement routes publish. Rebinding keeps the existing store/election or gossip transport/map and attaches to the new node-manager sources. Normal node-manager mutations, including AddNodes, reach the cached local-address-space adapter. - WoT materialization retains the stable configured factory. Samples expose genuinely factory-created nodes and a client `--identity` failover workflow. ## Preserved HA repairs The published `d99995003` and `79da74f14` fixes remain in place: - Shared linearizable sequence/lease coordination; no pretend CAS on CRDT and no private counter substituted for shared coordination. - Strict authoritative record decoding, protected pending reservations, safe snapshot publication and required delta retention. - Accepted topology state controls authoritative membership; stale deletion cannot remove a newer incarnation. - Independent subtree attachment tracking and correct disposal of the final snapshot task. - Values wait for their topology, and parent tombstone horizons prevent older descendant values crossing incarnations. A new deterministic regression also covers writer hydration preparation: temporary reconciliation removals must remain inbound application, not be recaptured as new shared deletion records. ## Validation ### Review feedback fixes `3a682155b` addresses the active-node notification, WoT namespace-index bounds, and retired-manager XML documentation feedback. The address-space adapter now notifies listeners with the registered active node, and both WoT managers reject missing/out-of-range namespace indexes before ownership is established. Targeted feedback validation passes on net10.0 and net48: 8 address-space adapter cases and 74 WoT cases per framework, plus 17 hydration/gossip/live-client integration cases on net10.0. The wrong-instance notification and missing namespace regressions were reproduced before the fixes. ### Identity implementation evidence | Selected scope | net10.0 | net48 | | --- | --- | --- | | HA repair, identity, metadata, peer admission and real-client identity/reload fixtures | 215 passed | 215 passed | | Factory, fluent authoring/import, NodeManagement and address-space adapter fixtures | 213 passed | 213 passed | | WoT node-manager fixtures | 68 passed | 68 passed | - Real UA-TCP clients compare full NodeIds/reference targets across independent servers in all four deterministic modes, with different manager/creation order and local allocations. Saved IDs work after endpoint failover and restart. - Real AddNodes-created IDs remain readable through successive live manager replacements in both replication modes, including nodes created after a reload. - Two process-level cases start three sample replicas, kill the serving process, verify a different serving ServerArray URI, and reuse cached factory-generated IDs for Read and CreateMonitoredItems without remapping or rebrowsing. - The identity/hydration scenario runs from the actual published win-x64 NativeAOT executable in the existing historian companion host. - The focused writer-recapture regression was observed failing without its fix, then passing. The real reload scenario was additionally repeated while diagnosing that race. - Changed-file formatting/style/analyzers were applied. Existing CA1508, CA1823, CA1861 and CA1850 warnings in untouched upstream files were not suppressed. The selected checks above do not replace full-solution CI, coverage gates or maintainer review, and do not claim that the entire solution or every native platform was run. #4444 remains the tracking issue. ## Contract and consistency limits Fixed identity does not make eventual payload reads linearizable. Hybrid views remain non-destructive, use explicit tombstones, and do not infer empty-store bootstrap or partition completion from absence. Compacted snapshots require authoritative storage. Failed/uncertain reservations require reconciliation. There is no automatic namespace-slot allocation, persistent logical-key mapping database, live renumbering, legacy-store wipe/adoption, or new hash algorithm. Opaque shared structures require a registered codec so their namespace-bearing fields can be validated. Application callbacks are still application-owned. ## Related issues - Tracks #4444. - Follow-up to #4390. - Builds on the merged NodeId factory (#4433), configure/seal (#4442) and lifecycle/import (#4427) integration at `aedd3f738`. ## Checklist - [ ] I have signed the CLA and read CONTRIBUTING. - [x] Added targeted regression and integration tests. - [x] Updated directly related API, HA, migration and sample documentation. - [x] Ran scoped formatting and the targeted framework checks listed above. - [ ] Full UA.slnx matrix and coverage gates completed. - [ ] All CI and maintainer review completed. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 9dbd9527-d818-47a0-984c-fbb1472d3d6b |

Reimplement the GDS ApplicationsNodeManager as a generated fluent node manager (#4434)
# Description Builds on #4428, which is now merged; this branch is rebased onto master. The GDS `ApplicationsNodeManager` becomes a source-generated `[NodeManager]`: the companion model, its loader and the fluent plumbing are emitted, and what stays hand-written is the behaviour. Getting there needed three things from the shared surface, which are the first two commits. ## Commits **1. Add the fluent hooks a hand-written manager needs at startup** - `OnReadRolePermissions` / `OnReadUserRolePermissions` on the node builder. Every other `NodeState` `On*` hook was already fluent; these were not, and a server that grants access on something the static model cannot express has to compute the permission set per request. - `Node<TState>(TState)` returns a builder over a node the caller already holds, for nodes materialised after `Configure` resolved its graph. - `OnAddressSpaceReadyAsync` on `FluentNodeManagerBase` — the one seam between the address space existing and the wiring being applied, for managers whose wiring depends on asynchronous setup. `Configure` is a `partial void` and cannot await. `DiNodeManager` had already invented the hook privately, so its declaration becomes an `override`. **2. Let a `[NodeManager]` bind to a model a referenced assembly supplies** A model belongs to the assembly that emits its types, which leaves a node manager for it homeless whenever that assembly cannot reference `Opc.Ua.Server` — a model-only package shared with clients, for instance. Binding was rejected twice over: the design was skipped before the binding was matched (`MODELGEN010`), and fluent-accessors-only mode refused to run alongside manager generation (`MODELGEN014`). The binding is now matched before the skip decision, and a matched binding puts that design into accessors-only mode. A design nothing binds to is still skipped, so this cannot start duplicating types by accident. The emitted manager also gains what a real manager needs: `DefaultNamespaceUris()` plus a protected constructor taking a replacement set; `GenerateDefaultConstructor=false` to suppress the two-argument form; its own logger category; and the call to `OnAddressSpaceReadyAsync`. Generated fluent accessors also stop re-enabling nullable warnings — a bare `#nullable enable` undid the shared header's `disable warnings`, so any model with a structure-typed method argument reported CS8600 on every generated `out T` in a project that builds warnings as errors. **3. Reimplement the GDS `ApplicationsNodeManager` as a generated node manager** The design stays owned by `Opc.Ua.Gds.Common`; the server assembly only binds a manager to it. **NodeIds do not move.** `NamespaceIndexes[0]` must stay the application record namespace — it is the one the application database, the certificate request store and the base allocator mint ids in — so the constructor passes the namespace order explicitly rather than adopting the generated model-first default. A test pins both ends against a live server. Four overrides go, leaving `OnAddressSpaceReadyAsync` and `Dispose(bool)` — no address-space overrides at all: | Removed | Why it was unnecessary | | --- | --- | | `New` | The base allocator already mints into `NamespaceIndexes[0]`, with a thread-safe counter. The override existed only because `Create(assignNodeIds: true)` asks the factory with the declaration id still set; `AssignInstanceNodeId` nulls it and re-asks, documented as being there for exactly this allocator. | | `AddBehaviourToPredefinedNodeAsync` | Its `AuthorizationServiceType` branch re-wired a node that was already wired, and its `KeyCredentialServiceType` branch had nothing to wire — the model ships that folder empty. | | `GetManagerHandleAsync`, `ValidateNodeAsync` | Verbatim reimplementations of the base that also blocked the fluent base's virtual-node support. | | `DeleteAddressSpaceAsync` | A `// TBD` passthrough. | Everything else — all sixteen directory methods with their self-administration permissions, the certificate groups' concrete types and trust-list flags, and the authorization service (created through this PR's `Add` surface and wired in the same place) — is one `Configure` pass. **4. Bind the certificate groups from the `Configure` pass** Acquiring a certificate group and binding it to its nodes are different kinds of work: the first is I/O (`InitAsync` opens certificate stores and creates CA certificates), the second only touches the address space. Each now runs in the phase it belongs to, which puts the whole of the wiring in one place. Ownership no longer rides on the binding. A group joins `m_ownedCertificateGroups` the moment it is constructed, before `InitAsync` can throw, so a group that fails half way through is still disposed — which the previous code could not manage, keying ownership off a dictionary it filled only after initialization succeeded. > Commit 3's message says this move is impossible and blames `PushTest`. **That was a wrong diagnosis, and this commit supersedes it.** Two real defects were hiding behind those failures: - **`Create(..., NodeId.Null, ..., assignNodeIds: false)` does not null the NodeId.** `NodeState.Create` overrides it only when handed a non-null one, so a custom group node kept the namespace-0 id of its type declaration. `AssignInstanceNodeId` hid this by re-asking the factory with the id nulled; the builder validates instead, and rejected it. The node is now created with an id in the manager's own namespace, as the `Default` authorization service already was. - **The custom certificate group node was not browseable.** It answered `GetCertificateGroups` and `ReadNode`, but a type-filtered recursive browse from the Objects folder never returned it — which OPC 10000-12 §7.8.2 requires of a certificate group. Staging the node through the builder gives it the reference it was missing. ### Two `PushTest` methods change — please review these closely The second defect had been masking what those tests actually did. Selecting the group positionally, `groups[3]` resolved to the server's **own `ServerConfiguration` group** while the custom one stayed invisible, so `UpdateTrustListOfCustomGroupAsync` and `AddRemoveCertOfCustomGroupAsync` were exercising a *transactional* trust list under a custom-group name. Browse results, before and after: | # | Before (baseline) | After | | --- | --- | --- | | 0-2 | GDS Directory groups (`ns=3`) | GDS Directory groups (`ns=3`) | | 3 | **`DefaultApplicationGroup` `i=14156`** — the server's own | **`MyCustomGroup` `ns=2`** | | 4 | — | `DefaultApplicationGroup` `i=14156` | They now resolve the group by browse name — which asserts it is browseable at all — and expect the immediate-apply semantics the GDS actually gives the groups of its own `Directory`: `CloseAndUpdate` writes the stores at once and reports `applyChangesRequired == false`, so the `ApplyChanges` calls go away (they would return `Bad_NothingToDo`). The read-back assertions are what prove the writes landed, and they are unchanged. This is a genuine loss of the *transactional* trust-list coverage those two methods were accidentally providing — the server's own group is still covered by the other `PushTest` methods, which target it deliberately. **5. Select `GetCertificates` results by type instead of by position** `GetCertificatesAsync` checked entry zero of a parallel-array result. Which entry that is depends on the order the server reports its certificate types in, an empty result throws `IndexOutOfRange` rather than failing an assertion, and a second type going missing or unparseable would not be noticed. Every returned pair is now checked, and a failure names the certificate type. **6. Drop the `.Common` suffix from the three GDS projects** Every other companion specification ships as `<Family>` / `<Family>.Client` / `<Family>.Server` — Di, ISA95, Positioning, Robotics, Vision, WotCon, XRegistry. GDS was the exception, with a `.Common` suffix that named nothing. | Before | After | | --- | --- | | `src/Opc.Ua.Gds.Common` | `src/Opc.Ua.Gds` | | `src/Opc.Ua.Gds.Client.Common` | `src/Opc.Ua.Gds.Client` | | `src/Opc.Ua.Gds.Server.Common` | `src/Opc.Ua.Gds.Server` | **No source changes were needed.** `RootNamespace` was already the final name in all three projects — the namespaces have always been `Opc.Ua.Gds`, `Opc.Ua.Gds.Client` and `Opc.Ua.Gds.Server`, and only the assembly and package ids disagreed. Nothing compiling against these assemblies changes a `using`. The package ids do change, which is consumer-visible, so `docs/migrate/2.0.x/packages.md` gains a renamed-packages section — it is the document that undertakes to cover NuGet renames — and the migration skill's package table gains the two rows a 1.5.378 consumer needs. Build infrastructure that names the projects or their output moves with them: both solution files, `expected-packages.txt` (re-sorted — it is maintained alphabetically), both signing manifests, the reference-server Dockerfile, the metapackage nuspecs, and the analyzer's package dependencies. `preview-pack.slnx` is derived from `UA.slnx` and needs no edit. The migration analyzer's shim tree mirrors the source layout by its own documented convention, so `Gds.Client.Common/` becomes `Gds.Client/`. Prose naming past work is left alone — plan 23 still records that its deferral happened during the "GDS Client.Common modernization", which is the name that effort had. ## Validation `net10.0`, on master + these four commits, from a clean GDS PKI: - `UA.slnx`: 0 errors, 0 warnings in changed files (the solution's 30 pre-existing warning lines are CA1861/CA1850/CA1307 in `XRegistry`, `Types.Tests` and `WotCon.Tests` — same rules and projects as the base). - `Opc.Ua.Gds.Tests`: 1,117 passed, 0 failed, 54 skipped — identical to the base branch. - `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests`: 4,961 passed, 0 failed, 5 skipped (measured before commit 4, which touches only the GDS assembly and its tests). - `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Tests`: 169 passed. - `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests`, NodeManager/Generators/Fluent: 84 passed; `GenerateCode`: 21 passed, 4 skipped. - `Opc.Ua.MigrationAnalyzer.Core.Tests`: 10 passed, 3 skipped. - After the rename: assemblies build as `Opc.Ua.Gds.dll` / `.Client.dll` / `.Server.dll`, with no `*.Common.dll` produced anywhere. - Commits 1-3 build standalone. - `Opc.Ua.Gds.Server.Common` also builds for `net48` and `netstandard2.1` (checked before the rebase onto #4428). Not yet run: the full `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests` suite (~3,800), and the older target frameworks since the rebase. ## Checklist - [x] Existing tests pass - [x] New tests cover the new surface (role permissions, resolved-node builder, referenced-model binding, constructor/namespace control, GDS namespace invariant, custom-group node namespace) - [ ] Full Core.Tests sweep and net48/netstandard2.1 re-run after the rebase 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Copilot Autofix powered by AI <175728472+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> |

Add an async iteration seam to NodeBrowser (#4450)
# Description `NodeBrowser` was synchronous end to end, so a node manager whose browse result depends on I/O had nowhere to `await`. The aggregation server sample is the concrete case: its browser has to browse the aggregated server, and the only way to write it was `Next() => NextAsync().GetAwaiter().GetResult()`, which holds a request worker for the full remote round trip on every browse. This is option (1) from the issue, the small non-breaking step: - `INodeBrowser` and `NodeBrowser` gain `ValueTask<IReference?> NextAsync(CancellationToken cancellationToken = default)`. The default completes synchronously with the result of `Next()`, so every existing browser that only overrides `Next()` keeps working unchanged (the samples' `MemoryBufferBrowser` and the migration-analyzer test snippets compile untouched). - `AsyncCustomNodeManager.BrowseAsync` and `TranslateBrowsePathAsync` iterate browsers through `NextAsync` with the request's cancellation token. The loop bodies already awaited; only the iteration could not. - `DirectoryBrowser` was the one browser the stack ships that blocked on async I/O. It now awaits the file-system provider enumeration in `NextAsync` and keeps `Next()` as the bridge for the remaining synchronous consumers (`UANodeSetHelpers` export, `CustomNodeManager2`). Cancellation now propagates instead of being reported as an empty directory. - The synchronous paths (`CustomNodeManager2`, `CoreNodeManager` diagnostics, nodeset export) are unchanged on purpose; they have no place to await. **Not done, by design.** Browser creation stays synchronous. `OnCreateBrowser` runs under the node's browse lock, so the documented contract is that a browser fetches lazily on its first `NextAsync`. The issue itself notes the async creation seam is not needed for the aggregation case. `IAsyncEnumerable` (option 3) is not attempted. **Compatibility note.** A type that implements `INodeBrowser` directly without deriving from `NodeBrowser` has to add the member. Nothing in this repo or the samples does that; derived browsers are unaffected. **Docs** updated in `NodeManagers.md`, `AsyncServerSupport.md`, `MigrationGuide.md` and `migrate/2.0.x/node-states.md`, with a was/now example for a browser that previously bridged sync-over-async. **Tests** - `NodeBrowserTests` (new): default wrapper completes synchronously and yields the same sequence as `Next()`, push-back through `NextAsync`, a `Next`-only override observed through `NextAsync`, an awaited `NextAsync` override with cancellation. - `AsyncCustomNodeManagerTests`: a browser whose `Next()` throws is driven entirely through `NextAsync` by browse, by the continuation-point round trip (push-back on the async path), and by translate-path. - `DirectoryObjectStateTests`: the async path of the directory browser, including the throwing provider and cancellation. Verified locally: `Opc.Ua.Server` builds on net10.0 and net48 with 0 errors; the browser-related server suites (1342 tests) and the new unit tests pass on net10.0; `dotnet format whitespace --verify-no-changes` is clean on the changed files. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4415 ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Make the fluent node manager's configure/seal path genuinely async (#4442)
# Description The fluent node-manager pipeline had two synchronous chokepoints, and two independent efforts have now hit both of them. `Configure` is a `partial void`, so it cannot `await`. A manager whose wiring depends on asynchronous setup had to invent a second hook outside the pipeline, create its own builder there, and hand-roll `CreateFluentBuilder(...).Configure(...).Seal()` inside it. `Seal()` was synchronous, so nothing a registration staged during `Configure` could be completed by awaiting. Registrations that needed to await either blocked — `EventSourceRegistry` did `.GetAwaiter().GetResult()` on the manager's root-notifier registration — or could not be expressed at all. ## What changed **`FluentNodeManagerBase.ConfigureAsync(INodeManagerBuilder, CancellationToken)`** is the awaitable wiring seam. It runs once per activation, with the manager's attached builder, immediately *before* the synchronous `Configure` partial(s) — so instances it materialises are in the address space by the time `Configure` wires callbacks against them. The default implementation is a no-op. It is a `virtual` method rather than a second `partial` declaration because a partial method can be optional (`partial void`, no return value) or awaitable (an extended partial method, which must be implemented) — not both, and the generator would otherwise have to detect which one the user declared. `partial void Configure(INodeManagerBuilder)` keeps working unchanged; a manager uses either hook or both. **`NodeManagerBuilder.Seal()` becomes `SealAsync(CancellationToken)`.** Sealing is now the single point where registrations that could not finish inside `Configure` get their turn to await. Every seal site awaits it, so a later change can move registry *setup* onto the same seam. **`DiNodeManager` now runs the standard pipeline itself** — create and attach the builder, `await ConfigureAsync`, `RegisterAuthoredNodesAsync`, `CompleteConfigureAsync`, the post-setup runner, then `await builder.SealAsync` — instead of handing subclasses a bare callback and leaving them to build and seal on their own. DI subclasses gain node registration and the reverse-reference pass, which they previously skipped. Sealing deliberately comes **after** the post-setup runner. The fluent registries are owned by the manager, not by a single builder, and sealing starts them — so sealing first locks post-setup configurators out of registering simulation loops of their own, which is exactly what `AddRobotics`' configurators do. Sealing before the runner makes `MinimalRobotServer` fail to start with *"Cannot add a simulation loop after the registry has started"*. Worth knowing for follow-up work: with several builders attached to one manager, the first seal freezes the shared registry for all of them. ## Workarounds removed - **`DiNodeManager.OnAddressSpaceReadyAsync`** — deleted. Its three overriders (`RoboticsNodeManager`, and the `PumpNodeManager` / `GeneratorNodeManager` samples) now override `ConfigureAsync` and no longer hand-roll `CreateFluentBuilder(...).Configure(Configure).Seal()`. - **`EventSourceRegistry`'s `.GetAwaiter().GetResult()`** on `AddRootNotifierAsync` — gone. `Publish(..., RegisterAsRootNotifier: true)` now stages the registration and `SealAsync` drains it, so the wait happens on an awaited path. A source whose root-notifier registration fails is rolled out of the registry before the failure surfaces, and a registry disposed before its builder sealed drops what it staged. - **`Isa95NodeManager.ConfigureStatusEvents()`** — the synchronous second builder pass is now `ConfigureStatusEventsAsync(CancellationToken)`, awaited from `CreateAddressSpaceAsync`. (`ConfigureCatalogChanges()` stays synchronous: it starts a background task and never seals a builder, so there was nothing to convert.) - **`IRoboticsBuildContext.Seal()`** — now `SealAsync(CancellationToken)`. These really were `NodeManagerBuilder.Seal()` calls behind a same-named method. The state transition still happens under the context lock; the builder's asynchronous completion runs outside it, so no `await` is taken while the lock is held. - The Pump / Generator incremental registration callbacks (`onRegistered`) changed from `Action<T>` to `Func<T, CancellationToken, ValueTask>` so their per-instance builder pass can await its own seal. No sync-over-async was introduced anywhere. `Dispose(bool)` is unchanged and stays non-blocking; teardown remains in `DeleteAddressSpaceAsync`. `NodeManagerBuilder.Seal()` and `IRoboticsBuildContext.Seal()` are removed rather than kept as synchronous overloads. A synchronous seal that silently skipped the asynchronous completion would reintroduce exactly the failure mode this change exists to remove. ## Generator `NodeManagerTemplates` emits, in order: predefined nodes load → `await ConfigureAsync(__m_builder, cancellationToken)` → `Configure(__m_builder)` and the typed `Configure` → `RegisterAuthoredNodesAsync` → `CompleteConfigureAsync` → `await SealConfigurationAsync(__m_builder, cancellationToken)`. `NodeManagerGeneratorTests` asserts that order literally, and that neither `__m_builder.Seal()` nor the synchronous `SealConfiguration(__m_builder)` is emitted. ### Merging with #4432 #4432 landed on `master` while this was in review and reworked the same seam from the other side: it split `Seal()` into `SealGraphAuthoring()` + `StartSimulations()` so a manager can replay `NotifyNodeAdded` *between* the two halves — sealing first stops a lifecycle handler authoring nodes nothing would register, starting the simulations last stops a simulated value change preceding its own node''s `OnNodeAdded` — and added `FluentNodeManagerBase.SealConfiguration(builder)` as the one call the generator emits. Both intents are kept. That split is precisely why the asynchronous completion could not simply live inside `SealAsync`: a manager reaching the seam through the split path would silently skip it, which is the failure mode this PR exists to remove. So the asynchronous half became its own step: - `NodeManagerBuilder.CompleteSealAsync(ct)` drains the staged root-notifier registrations, then starts the simulations. `SealAsync(ct)` is `SealGraphAuthoring()` followed by it. - #4432''s synchronous `StartSimulations()` is gone, folded into `CompleteSealAsync`. It had exactly one production caller after the merge, and leaving it standing would have kept a second, synchronous way to activate a builder that skips the staged registrations — the very hazard this PR removes. Activation is now one step with one entry point; the *split* itself stays, because the replay has to sit between the halves. - `SealConfiguration` becomes `SealConfigurationAsync(builder, ct)`: seal the graph, replay `NotifyNodeAdded`, then `CompleteSealAsync`. Activation still happens last, so #4432''s ordering guarantee holds unchanged. ## Consumers unblocked - **#4434 ("Reimplement the GDS ApplicationsNodeManager as a generated fluent node manager")** adds `OnAddressSpaceReadyAsync` to `FluentNodeManagerBase` purely because, in its own words, *"`Configure` is a `partial void` and cannot await"*. That hook is unnecessary once `ConfigureAsync` exists — the GDS manager overrides `ConfigureAsync` instead, and the ordering it wants (predefined nodes → async setup → `Configure`) is what the generator now emits. #4434 has not merged yet, so it can drop its addition rather than have it simplified afterwards. - **Branch `romanett/fluent-node-behaviors`** moved `SimulationRegistry`, `EventSourceRegistry`, `MonitoredSourceRegistry` and the alarm wiring onto `AttachToType`/`Attach` for *release* only, because activation ran from `CompleteConfigureAsync` and most managers only called the synchronous `Seal()`. Every seal site now reaches `SealAsync`, so registry and alarm *setup* can move onto behavior activation too — the remaining half of that work. ## Tests - New `DiNodeManagerConfigureAsyncTests` drives the real `DiNodeManager.CreateAddressSpaceAsync` and asserts the hook runs once with an attached builder, that nodes it stages are registered, that their references to externally owned nodes are published, and that the builder is sealed before `CreateAddressSpaceAsync` returns. - `PublishTests` now pins the root-notifier deferral contract: registration is staged during `Configure`, lands only on the seal, and draining twice does not double-register. - Every `Seal()` call site in the test suites became `await ...SealAsync()`, including the three #4432 added in `NodeSetImportBuilderTests` and `SimulationBuilderExtensionsTests`. ## Related Issues No tracking issue was opened for this; it is the shared prerequisite extracted from #4434 and branch `romanett/fluent-node-behaviors`, both of which had independently worked around the same synchrony. Happy to open one if maintainers want the ADR trail. ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. ### What was actually run locally `UA.slnx` builds clean. Post-merge on **net10.0**: `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` 5020/0 and `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests` 3813/0. Three caveats, so the unchecked box above is not a mystery: the full suite was **not** run against .NET Framework locally; `Opc.Ua.OpenUsd.Tests` has one pre-existing failure on this machine (`StructuredCartesianCoordinatesAreAccepted` expects `"1.5"` and gets `"1,5"` — a German-locale decimal separator, unrelated to this change); and one pre-existing `CA1861` warning comes from `NodeSetImportIntegrationTests.cs`, which is byte-identical to `master` on this branch. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Fix startup NodeManager lifecycle and imported method arguments (#4427)
# Description Make startup-composed application NodeManagers participate in the live lifecycle and bind imported NodeSet2 Method argument properties to their typed `MethodState` children. This change: - adopts application NodeManagers created before startup into `INodeManagerLifecycle.Registrations` after server startup succeeds, while keeping diagnostics, configuration, and core managers protected; - retains per-manager startup external-reference ownership and exact routing positions so reload, removal, rollback, overlapping namespaces, synchronous adapters, and server restart preserve existing behavior; counted immutable reference snapshots avoid quadratic startup matching; - rejects duplicate factory output across active, unpublished, and retired lifecycle generations without deleting or disposing the live manager; callers can catch the public `NodeManagerAlreadyRegisteredException`; - binds valid namespace-zero `Argument[]` `PropertyType` `InputArguments` and `OutputArguments` Variables to `MethodState.InputArguments` and `MethodState.OutputArguments` from either `HasProperty` direction, without requiring `ParentNodeId`, including local namespace-URI reference targets; - preserves authored metadata during NodeSet typed-child promotion without changing the initialization behavior of unrelated generated nodes; - retains generic-import guards for custom and malformed signatures, duplicate standard-signature validation, and upstream factory-driven generated-slot replacement and reconciliation callbacks; - updates lifecycle and Runtime NodeSet documentation and clarifies `OnServerStartedAsync` timing for both `StartAsync` overloads, including the unopened default host returned to the caller. This is a focused follow-up to #4418. That PR preserves registrations from multiple fluent builders, but does not change lifecycle ownership or NodeSet child typing. The branch includes upstream `master` through `da7412c42`, including #4396, #4432, #4437, #4438, and #4440. The completed review fixes in `686d0561f` are included. The latest base merge (`a29fc6ca8`) combines them with #4432's shared batch/fluent importer and generated state factories. One iterative linker supports available parent nodes, deferred parent side tables, application-owned handles, and placeholder reconciliation while retaining reference-driven Method argument binding and URI handling. Upstream cancellation, GDS assembly renames, certificate leak scoping, and xRegistry changes are preserved. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4421 - Fixes #4422 ## CI regression fix `e1a4436f0` fixes the GDS failure reported on Ubuntu and macOS. Copying permission metadata in general `NodeState` initialization applied `SecurityAdmin`-only defaults to generated GDS custom certificate groups and denied their existing GDS-admin Browse requests. Metadata preservation is now confined to NodeSet typed-child promotion; imported Method argument permissions remain intact, while unrelated generated nodes retain their existing initialization behavior. Local Release validation also exposed a 260-character certificate path in the startup-failure test added by this PR. Its isolated PKI now uses a short temporary path. No assertions, authorization checks, or CI gates were weakened, and no pre-existing tests were changed. ## macOS ARM64 NativeAOT suspension Per maintainer request, `a15971f32` suspends only the failing `macos-latest` / `osx-arm64` NativeAOT matrix entry. Re-enabling it once the compiler contains the runtime fix is tracked in #4443. Intel macOS, Linux, and Windows NativeAOT coverage, managed macOS tests, and all other CI gates remain enabled. This is an explicit coverage suspension, not a claim that the underlying compiler/linker defect is fixed. The macOS ARM64 NativeAOT job on `a29fc6ca8` fails during native linking with `ld: Assertion failed: (_addend == uniqueIndex && "too many large addends")`. Both attempts of [run 34191755950](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/actions/runs/34191755950) hit the same assertion before the native test executable can run; the build/test summary failure is downstream. This matches the NativeAOT Mach-O relocation issue in dotnet/runtime#119380, fixed by relocation-anchor emission in dotnet/runtime#124721 and its .NET 10 backport dotnet/runtime#132171. The failing `Microsoft.DotNet.ILCompiler` 10.0.11 package's nuspec points to `dotnet/dotnet` commit `e2f47b0110ed922f21a1522da67279133ce28f32` (July 23); its object writer does not contain the anchor fix merged on August 12. Version 10.0.11 is currently the latest stable package. The base commit passed on the same runner image and SDK, so this is not being dismissed as a generally broken runner or a test flake. The precise PR-specific object-layout trigger has not been isolated. A compiler containing the relocation fix is needed before restoring the lane. No test code, assertions, coverage thresholds, or shared tooling settings were changed. ## Validation Latest base-merge validation on both `net10.0` and `net48`, Release: - Import helpers and argument-binding regressions: 51 passed per framework. - Batch/fluent import, generated-state overlays, runtime/startup lifecycle, cross-source references, routing, reference snapshots, and node-authoring selection: 344 passed per framework. - Merge-specific cases cover available Method parents with forward/inverse and URI/index references while retaining an application-owned `NodeId` handle. - The unchanged upstream `NodeSetImportIntegrationTests.cs:210` CA1861 warning remains; no diagnostic suppression or unrelated cleanup was added. Release CI-fix validation on both `net10.0` and `net48`: - `CustomCertificateGroupIntegrationTest`: 4 passed, including the unchanged CI failure. - `UANodeSetHelpersTests`: 8 passed, including imported security metadata. - `StartupRuntimeNodeSetLifecycleTests`: 5 passed. Earlier Debug merge and review validation on both frameworks: - Lifecycle, RuntimeNodeSet, fluent, and OperationContext selection after merging `978e6d1af`: 638 passed per framework. - Startup/transport-binding and RuntimeNodeSet integration selection after merging `017856f4a`: 28 passed per framework. - Public exception contract and duplicate-registration selection in `fbf08428b`: 6 passed per framework. Targeted test invocations rebuilt the affected projects successfully. The full `UA.slnx` suite was not rerun locally. ## Checklist - [ ] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 2bb8a834-7695-4ae6-84cb-2471c76d1b12 |

Import NodeSet2 documents into a fluent node manager (#4432)
## What
`INodeManagerBuilder.Import(UANodeSet, INodeSetImportFactoryProvider?)`
lets a source-generated (or hand-written fluent) node manager overlay a
NodeSet2 document that is only known at runtime onto the model it was
generated from.
Every document imported during one `Configure` pass forms a single batch
that is linked **exactly once** after the pass. A node may therefore
declare a `ParentNodeId` that lives in another document of the batch, or
a node the manager already owns — which is what makes an overlay
possible. Imported nodes resolve through
`Node(...)`/`NodeFromTypeId(...)` immediately, so they can be wired in
the same pass; they are registered with the manager when
`CompleteConfigureAsync` runs.
### Public surface
- **+1 method**: `INodeManagerBuilder.Import(UANodeSet nodeSet,
INodeSetImportFactoryProvider? factoryProvider = null)`.
- **+3 contracts** in `Opc.Ua.Server.Nodes`:
`INodeSetImportFactoryProvider`, `INodeSetImportFactory`,
`NodeSetImportDiscriminator` (TypeDefinition / MethodDeclaration /
NodeId).
- In `Opc.Ua.Export`: a public `UANodeSet.Import` overload taking a
`NodeSetImportStateFactory`, and a public batch
`LinkParentChildRelationships(context, nodes,
NodeSetImportLinkOptions)`. These replace what would otherwise have been
an `InternalsVisibleTo("Opc.Ua.Server")` on `Opc.Ua.Types`.
- `NodeState.IsExplicitlyDefinedChild(context, child)` and `protected
DetachExplicitlyDefinedChild(child)`, used to tell a generated slot
apart from an ordinary child.
### Typed states, no reflection
The generator emits `{Model}NodeSetImportFactoryProvider` — one factory
per model type/declaration, each calling a concrete constructor for an
*empty* state — and makes the generated node manager implement
`INodeSetImportFactoryProvider` by delegating to it. So the builder
resolves the provider from the manager (`NodeManager as
INodeSetImportFactoryProvider`); `Import` also accepts one directly, and
the generated manager exposes `partial void
AddNodeSetImportFactories(List<INodeSetImportFactory>)` for dependency
models. An imported node of a generated type materializes as its
generated `*State` subclass with no type lookup, which keeps the path
NativeAOT-safe.
Because the factories create empty states, an imported instance carries
exactly the children its document declares.
### Reconciliation
When an imported child lands in a slot the generated parent declares
(same BrowseName), it replaces the generated placeholder: the displaced
node and every descendant the document does not carry over are removed
from the manager, and references to them are retargeted at the
replacement. Replacing a node the same `Configure` pass already wired is
rejected with `BadInvalidState` rather than silently dropping the
wiring, and sealing a builder with an unregistered import batch is
rejected too.
### Also
- `RuntimeNodeSetNodeManager` now uses the same importer: its documents
are one batch, so a node may declare a parent in another document of the
group regardless of parse order, and duplicate NodeIds across documents
are detected while parsing.
- Linking resolves an imported child's reference type from its own
inverse reference (previously always `HasComponent`/`HasProperty`).
- Method import keeps the document's `UserExecutable`; it previously
copied `Executable` into it. View import keeps `EventNotifier`.
## Tests
- `NodeSetImporterTests` (15) — discriminator selection, generic
fallbacks, field/value/reference fidelity against a generic import,
cross-document linking, typed replacement of inherited and argument
slots, deferred linking preserving an application `Handle`, duplicate
NodeIds, factory misuse.
- `NodeSetImportBuilderTests` (15) — staging and lookup before
registration, batch linking, attaching to an existing node, provider
resolution, placeholder replacement with reference retargeting,
configured-placeholder rejection, seal/completion guards.
- `NodeSetImportIntegrationTests` (5) — a generated `[NodeManager]`
overlaying its own model on a running server: typed states through the
generated provider, cross-document linking, placeholder replacement, and
browse through a session.
- `NodeManagerGeneratorTests` (+4) — the emitted provider and the
manager's delegation, including that no factory uses
`Activator.CreateInstance`/reflection.
- `NodeSetAotTests` (+1) — the public state-factory import under
NativeAOT.
Full `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` (4946), `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests`
(3821), `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Tests` (165) and `Opc.Ua.Types.Tests`
pass locally on net10.0.

Complete WoT binding preservation and two-pump aggregation (#4431)
# Description
Complete WoT Binding preservation and the two-pump aggregation workflow
without implicit overlays or multi-source action fan-out.
- Add verified linked-document export and bounded partition merging.
Preserve complete source facts, reject contradictory archival content,
and retain usable readable content when a future native grammar is
unsupported.
- Wire local Methods and Condition events through the existing
injectable binding/runtime infrastructure. Keep local and upstream
identities distinct, translate namespace-bearing values, and bound
occurrence routes by source and generation.
- Wait for asynchronous event-producer readiness before completing
subscription creation, so the first alarm is not lost. Preserve
cancellation, teardown, and startup-failure reporting.
- Import runtime types in inheritance order and attach typed Method
argument Properties. Keep generated Double spelling deterministic across
supported frameworks and remove an AOT-unsafe registry validation
conversion.
- Generate both pumps and their asset/group projections. Expose fifteen
typed readings per pump, separate source-owned controls, and
acknowledge/confirm/reset workflows. Extend the demo script for managed
and NativeAOT execution, bounded failures, and exact-process cleanup.
- Synchronize current-state documentation and specification fixtures.
Compose fixture paths from platform-independent components and emit/pin
LF pump XML so byte-exact regeneration holds on Windows, Linux, and
macOS.
- Keep sample JSON readable with sorted members, two-space indentation,
and LF line endings. Normalize generated filenames to single hyphens
without changing registry resource IDs, document values, logical links,
or dependency ordering; the manifest maps resource IDs to their physical
filenames.
Most changed files are deterministic regenerations of checked-in sample
documents. The demo manifest contains 533 linked resources; the
aggregation server remains generic and has no Pump-specific compiled
model dependency.
No new alarm vocabulary, shelving/suppression/dialog/ConditionRefresh
transport mapping, Azure SDK changes, or complete Pump/OpenUSD parity is
introduced.

Add node creation to the fluent node manager builder (#4428)
# Description
`INodeManagerBuilder` gains a node **creation** surface alongside its
existing lookup surface, so a `Configure` partial can fill a namespace
without a NodeSet or a ModelDesign.
Twelve new members, implemented as ordinary public members on
`NodeManagerBuilder` (new partial file
`NodeManagerBuilder.Authoring.cs`):
| Member | Creates |
| --- | --- |
| `AddFolder(name, parentId)` | a `FolderState` (`Organizes`) |
| `AddObject(name, parentId, typeDefinitionId)` | a `BaseObjectState` |
| `AddVariable<TValue>(name, parentId)` | a `BaseDataVariableState`
whose `DataType`/`ValueRank` come from `TValue` |
| `AddMethod(name, parentId)` | an executable `MethodState` |
| `Add<TState>(node, parentId)` | an already-constructed state of any
`NodeState` subclass |
| `Add<TState>(factory, parentId)` | a state built by a factory that
receives the resolved parent |
| `AddRoot<TState>(node)` | a root, with its existing references left
alone |
| `TryGetNode(nodeId, out node)` | lookup across
created-but-not-yet-registered nodes and predefined nodes |
Each `Add*` for a browse name takes a `string` (qualified with the
manager's default namespace) or a `QualifiedName` carrying an explicit
nonzero namespace index — eight overloads plus the four above.
```csharp
partial void Configure(INodeManagerBuilder builder)
{
INodeBuilder<FolderState> machines = builder.AddFolder("Machines");
builder.AddVariable<double>("Pressure", machines.Node.NodeId)
.OnRead(() => m_sensor.Pressure);
builder.AddMethod("Reset", machines.Node.NodeId)
.OnCall(ResetAsync);
}
```
Three properties make this usable straight from `Configure`:
- **NodeIds are final before the builder comes back.** Every `Add*` runs
the node — and its whole subtree — through the manager's
`INodeIdFactory` before returning, so `OnRead`/`OnWrite` registrations,
which key off `NodeState.NodeId`, stay valid once the node is
registered.
- **Creation is staged, not immediate.** Created nodes are held until
the manager calls `RegisterAuthoredNodesAsync`. That is what lets a node
name a sibling created moments earlier, and it keeps the builder usable
before the manager has finished building its address space.
- **Custom state types stay typed.** `Add<TState>` returns
`INodeBuilder<TState>`, so a hand-written `NodeState` subclass keeps its
type through the fluent chain.
Staging also makes the builder's own lookups see created nodes: browse
paths, `NodeId`, `TypeDefinitionId` and `DataType` resolution all
consult the staged graph before falling back to the manager's predefined
nodes.
### Registration ordering
A new `protected
FluentNodeManagerBase.RegisterAuthoredNodesAsync(builder, ct)` hands the
staged roots to `AddPredefinedNodeAsync`. It runs **after** the
`Configure` delegates and **before** `CompleteConfigureAsync`, so the
reverse-reference pass sees the new nodes and mirrors their references
to externally owned nodes (typically the ns=0 `Objects` folder) into
`externalReferences`. Three call sites emit it in that position:
- the source-generated `CreateAddressSpaceAsync`
(`NodeManagerTemplates`)
- the hosting `FluentNodeManager` (`FluentNodeManagerFactory`)
- `RuntimeNodeSetNodeManager`, which additionally re-runs
`AddReverseReferencesAsync` because its first pass happens before
`Configure`
A builder that created nothing registers nothing, so the call is safe to
make unconditionally.
The surface is available to **every** fluent host — there is no opt-in
gate and no second builder interface. The generated typed builder
(`FluentBuilderGenerator`) forwards the new members like the rest of
`INodeManagerBuilder`.
### Supporting change
`AsyncCustomNodeManager.PrepareAuthoredNodeIdsForRegistration`
(internal) assigns an id to every node in a subtree that still lacks one
and pulls namespace-0 children into the root's namespace. It differs
from the existing `PrepareInstanceNodeIdsForRegistration`, which only
rebases a subtree that collides with a declaration. It is idempotent.
## Related Issues
- Follow-up tracked in #4429 (adopting this surface in the remaining
hand-rolled node managers, which each need a base-class change first).
- No tracking issue for the API itself yet; happy to open one if
maintainers would like the design recorded as an ADR before review.
## Notes for reviewers
Three judgement calls worth a look:
1. **Always-on rather than gated.** The feature is available to every
fluent host with no enable call. There is no `INodeSource`-style concept
here to withhold it from, so an always-on capability is the same
behaviour with one fewer state flag. Misuse is still rejected: `Add*`
after `Seal()` or after registration throws `BadInvalidState`, a NodeId
in a namespace the manager does not own throws `BadNodeIdInvalid`, and a
parent in one of the manager's *own* namespaces that was never created
throws `BadNodeIdUnknown`.
2. **Detaching from the external-parent proxy goes through
`AddChild`/`RemoveChild`.** The factory overload hands the factory an
identity-only proxy when the parent belongs to another node manager,
then has to drop the parent link the factory established.
`BaseInstanceState.Parent` has an `internal` setter scoped to
`Opc.Ua.Types`, so this pair is the only public route. Commented as such
at the call site. An alternative would be widening that setter or adding
`InternalsVisibleTo` — happy to switch if preferred.
3. **`PrepareNodeIds` does not re-walk per descendant.** The root pass
already covers the subtree, so per-child calls would be no-ops on a
quadratic walk; descendants are only namespace-validated.
One inherited behaviour the new tests pinned down:
`BaseObjectState(parent)` sets `ReferenceTypeId = HasComponent` in its
own constructor, so a node built via the factory overload lands under
the `Objects` folder with `HasComponent`, while the plain `AddObject`
path picks `Organizes`. That asymmetry predates this PR; flagging it in
case it is worth normalizing separately.
`Import(UANodeSet)` is deliberately **not** part of this change — it
belongs to NodeSet import rather than node creation.
## Test results
19 new tests in
`tests/Opc.Ua.Server.Tests/Fluent/NodeManagerBuilderAuthoringTests.cs`
cover NodeId assignment before return, parent-by-NodeId nesting, the
default Objects-folder placement and its inverse reference, custom state
types, both factory paths (authored parent and external-parent proxy),
`AddRoot` reference preservation, `TryGetNode`, id-keyed read handlers
firing on the registered instance, browse-path/NodeId visibility of
created nodes, and every rejection path listed above.
Run against **net10.0** (`-p:CustomTestTarget=net10.0`):

| --- | --- |

| `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests` | 3809 passed, 0 failed, 8
skipped |
| `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Tests` | 165 passed, 0 failed |

Complete fluent node manager extensibility (#4418)
# Description Complete the fluent node-manager extensibility surface needed by dynamic and externally backed address spaces. This change: - adds virtual node families with cheap NodeId ownership checks, async materialization, per-operation caching, custom browsing, and family-level callbacks; - adds monitored-item pre-creation decisions, complete lifecycle hooks, async batch hooks, stack-managed custom monitored items, and subscription-gated polling; - exposes the startup `ApplicationConfiguration` to generated manager partials through `FluentNodeManagerBase`; - fixes typed builder proxy support, concrete object wrapper types, and fully-qualified generated model composition; - reports unresolved `[NodeManager]` namespace expressions as `MODELGEN035` instead of silently dropping them; - documents the new APIs and compatibility behavior. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4397 - Fixes #4398 - Fixes #4399 - Fixes #4403 - Fixes #4404 - Fixes #4405 ## Validation - `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` on `net10.0`: 4,886 passed, 5 skipped. - `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests` on `net10.0`: 3,807 passed, 8 skipped. - `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Tests` on `net10.0`: 164 passed. - Runtime and generator regression selections passed on `net48`. - Review-feedback validation: 376 fluent tests passed on `net10.0`; 22 focused tests passed on `net48`. - The CI timing regression was repeated five times on `net48` and once on `net10.0`. - All 266 applicable GitHub Actions and Azure Pipelines checks, including CodeQL and coverage, pass on `83c571423`. - AppVeyor reports an immediate zero-duration no-run failure because `appveyor.yml` whitelists only the `appveyor` branch; it did not execute this PR. - `UA.slnx` builds successfully for `net10.0`; affected project builds are warning-free. - The repository-wide `dotnet test UA.slnx` invocation is currently blocked by the solution's mixed VSTest/Microsoft.Testing.Platform configuration under the .NET 10 SDK, so the affected test projects were run individually. ## Checklist - [ ] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [x] I fixed **all** failing and flaky tests in the CI pipelines and **all** CodeQL warnings. - [x] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. --------- Copilot-Session: afaa67c9-fc97-4185-a785-edd54a937d95 |

Split ConfigurationNodeManager by concern (#4381) (#4406)
# Description `ConfigurationNodeManager` was a 5002-line class mixing OPC UA Part 12 push certificate management, Part 5 namespace metadata, §7.8.3 certificate alarms and address-space plumbing. This PR separates those concerns without changing the public or protected API. **Partial-class split by concern** (`src/Opc.Ua.Server/Configuration/`): the core file keeps construction, address-space setup, access control, transaction diagnostics and the shared state (1271 lines); the rest moves verbatim into sibling files, each with a class summary naming its concern and the shared fields it may touch, following the `MasterNodeManager.*.cs` / `DiagnosticsNodeManager.AliasNames.cs` pattern: - `ConfigurationNodeManager.PushMethods.cs` – UpdateCertificate, CreateSelfSignedCertificate, DeleteCertificate, CreateSigningRequest, GetRejectedList, GetCertificates, KeyCredential push binding - `ConfigurationNodeManager.CertificateSlots.cs` – slot resolution/occupancy, staged slot replacement with rollback, issuer import cleanup, rotation registration, endpoint-reference guards - `ConfigurationNodeManager.ApplyChanges.cs` – ApplyChanges/CancelChanges, deferred grace-period apply, ResetToServerDefaults, shutdown drains - `ConfigurationNodeManager.TrustMaterial.cs` – TrustList change effects and the trust-material enforcement pump - `ConfigurationNodeManager.CertificateAlarms.cs` and `ConfigurationNodeManager.NamespaceMetadata.cs` – thin facades over the new collaborators below **Three collaborators extracted** for the areas that touch only their own state (continuing the pattern of `PushConfigurationTransactionCoordinator` / `PushConfigurationTrustListEffectHandler`): - `PushCertificateValidation` – the stateless validators (certificate/issuer-chain and TrustList checks, subject and key-size rules, endpoint-reference check, slot selection) - `NamespaceMetadataRegistry` – URI/index cache, lazy creation and default-permission tracking of `NamespaceMetadataState` nodes, reached through a small `INamespaceMetadataHost` seam the manager implements (same shape as `IAliasNameMaterializerHost`) - `CertificateAlarmScheduler` – alarm instantiation, periodic refresh/evaluation and start/stop lifecycle for the §7.8.3 alarms - `ServerCertificateGroup` is promoted from a private nested class to an internal top-level type so the collaborators can share it Log messages that moved get their own `ServerEventIds` blocks (`CertificateAlarmScheduler = 40`, `NamespaceMetadataRegistry = 570`); the remaining `ConfigurationNodeManagerLog` ids are renumbered contiguously. **Why not separate node managers.** The infrastructure for a second ns=0 manager exists, but Part 12 push owns no nodes of its own; it binds behaviour onto ns=0 nodes the diagnostics manager loads. A second manager would break the index-0 assumptions in `MasterNodeManager`, the diagnostics-to-configuration downcast in `ServerInternalData`, `IMainNodeManagerFactory`, the ReferenceServer subclass and the test harnesses that construct one manager, for no architectural gain. **Reviewer notes** - `git diff -M --color-moved=dimmed-zebra --color-moved-ws=ignore-all-space` shows the satellite bodies as moves rather than additions. - Public/protected surface of `ConfigurationNodeManager` and `IConfigurationNodeManager` is unchanged; `ReferenceServerConfigurationNodeManager` is untouched. Only `internal` members moved, and the four test files that called them were updated (validation statics now on `PushCertificateValidation`, alarm internals via `manager.AlarmScheduler`). - Tests that reflect on `ConfigurationNodeManager` private members by name keep working because the members stay on the partial class. - New fixtures: `CertificateAlarmSchedulerTests`, `NamespaceMetadataRegistryTests`. - Verified locally: server project builds for all target frameworks with 0 warnings; configuration-related server tests (373) and GDS `PushTest` (327) pass on net10.0; `dotnet format --verify-no-changes` is clean on the touched files. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4381 ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Fix typed instance child NodeIds during registration (#4395)
## Summary - selectively repair typed instance subtrees during asynchronous registration when null, foreign declaration, or type-colliding NodeIds remain - preserve caller-assigned IDs in manager-owned namespaces, well-known namespace-zero roots, and standalone foreign nodes - assign `CreateProgramStateMachine` child NodeIds at the fluent creation point without changing generic synchronous registration semantics - add `ProgramStateMachineState` regressions proving `CurrentState` descendants are manager-owned and reachable - document the registration contract and synchronize the bundled migration-plugin copy ## Relationship to #4389 This is a compatibility fix for the existing `AsyncCustomNodeManager` and fluent state-machine paths and should land independently. The node-source work in #4389 has been rebased over this change locally and retains its cancellation-aware lifecycle ordering. ## Validation | Scope | Result | | --- | --- | | Focused `net10.0` NodeId/fluent regressions | Passed | | Focused `net48` NodeId/fluent regressions | Passed | | Full `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` `net10.0` | 4,862 passed, 5 skipped | | `Opc.Ua.Client.ComplexTypes.Tests` `net10.0` / `net48` | 2,773 passed on each | | `Opc.Ua.Di.Tests` `net10.0` / `net48` | 424 passed on each | | `Opc.Ua.InformationModel.Tests` `net10.0` / `net48` | 1,080 passed, 20 skipped on each | | Migration plugin validation | 15 bundled docs synchronized | | Full solution build `net10.0` | Succeeded | ## Related Issues Fixes #4376 --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 78e1a2f4-c8a5-4627-aa90-1f2993541ebe |

Remove the implicit fluent ReferenceServer root (#4394)
## Summary - stop `AddNodeManager(namespaceUri, build)` from creating a hidden `ReferenceServer` folder - keep the named root as an internal opt-in used only by `AddReferenceServer` - centralize fluent node-manager factory registration so the interface implementation and extension path cannot diverge - add hosting coverage for the no-root default, explicit callback-created roots, and the reference-server preset - update hosting API documentation and examples to show explicit root creation and placement ## Relationship to #4389 This is an independent hosting bug in `FluentNodeManagerFactory`; #4389 does not change that factory. Keeping it separate avoids expanding the already large architectural PR. The node-source branch has been rebased over this fix locally without reintroducing the implicit root. ## Validation | Scope | Result | | --- | --- | | Focused hosting tests `net10.0` | 17 passed | | Focused hosting tests `net48` | 17 passed | | Full `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` `net10.0` | 4,861 passed, 5 skipped | | Full solution build `net10.0` | Succeeded | | Full `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` `net48` | 4,855 passed, 6 skipped before the assembly-wide teardown reported four outstanding certificate wrappers; the same teardown result reproduced on the independent #4376 branch | ## Related Issues Fixes #4388 Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> |

Complete CreateInstanceOf node lifecycle during registration (#4360)
# Description Generated `CreateInstanceOf<Type>` factories build typed node graphs and assign per-instance NodeIds, but intentionally leave the node create lifecycle open. Hand-written callers commonly registered those graphs without calling `CreateAsPredefinedNode`, so `OnBeforeCreate`, `OnAfterCreate`, and change-mask clearing never ran. This change: - adds `NodeState.IsCreated` and makes lifecycle completion idempotent per node; - completes newly materialized children, including children created by `OnAfterCreate`; - bounds late-child lifecycle convergence and fails explicitly if callbacks keep adding uncreated nodes; - completes uncreated nodes automatically before predefined-node registration and behavior wiring in both async and legacy custom node managers; - assigns/rebases async-node-manager NodeIds before lifecycle callbacks; - emits a null-safe Debug diagnostic when registration performs completion; - documents the generated-factory lifecycle contract and migration behavior; - adds regressions for condition/alarm method binding, finite-state-machine namespaces, Fluent state-node rebasing, behavior replacement, cloning, deletion, late children, non-converging callbacks, and synchronous/async registration. The tracked `src/` and `samples/` call-site audit covered 2,953 C# files. No additional ordering-sensitive call sites require explicit completion beyond the three existing DI/Robotics sites. ## Validation - `dotnet build UA.slnx -c Release -p:CustomTestTarget=net10.0`: passed. - `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` net10.0: 4,811 passed, 5 skipped. - `NodeStateTests` net10.0 and net48: 213 passed on each. - Node-manager lifecycle and null-logger tests net48: 459 passed. - Source-generation core tests net10.0 and net48: 3,802 passed, 8 skipped on each. - DI, Robotics, ISA95, Positioning, Vision, Vision.Intent, and XRegistry suites passed on net10.0 and net48. - Generated alarm lifecycle regression passed on net10.0 and net48. The solution build reports six pre-existing CA warnings in untouched files. The OpenUSD suite has one pre-existing locale-sensitive failure in `StructuredCartesianCoordinatesAreAccepted` (`1.5` expected versus `1,5` under `en-DE`); all other OpenUSD tests passed on both tested frameworks. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4320 ## Checklist - [ ] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 7ffdc400-0710-4a2e-a9d1-c0e1a9b3b81e |

[Server] Decouple service-call dispatch from MasterNodeManager lifecycle coordination (#4345)
# Description Extracts OPC UA service-call dispatch out of `MasterNodeManager` into a dedicated internal `NodeManagerServiceDispatcher`, separating it from NodeManager lifecycle coordination as agreed in the #4094 review threads (r3649968439 / r3649998212). The 7,668-line class becomes four files with explicit, documented boundary contracts: - **`NodeManagerServiceDispatcher.cs`** (new, internal sealed) — the implementations of GetManagerHandle/Async, TranslateBrowsePaths, Browse/BrowseNext, Read, Write, Call, HistoryRead/HistoryUpdate, ConditionRefresh, all monitored-item operations (create/restore/modify/transfer/delete/set-mode), and per-request validation. Its constructor receives only the routing table, the server context, and a logger. Lifecycle mutation state (`m_dynamicMutationSemaphore`, `m_startupShutdownSemaphoreSlim`, retired-generation collections, preparing-manager tracking) stays `private` to `MasterNodeManager`, so the dispatcher cannot reach it — the boundary is enforced by the compiler, not convention. - **`MasterNodeManager.cs`** — now lifecycle coordination and shared infrastructure only: startup/shutdown, session notifications, namespace registration, all `IDynamicNodeManagerHost` / `ISyncNodeManagerMonitoredItemRecovery` implementations, the retired-generation notification-lease machinery, and commit/replace/rollback helpers. - **`MasterNodeManager.ServiceDispatch.cs`** (new partial) — the unchanged public service surface. Every public virtual entry point, protected helper, static validator, and obsolete wrapper keeps its exact signature, virtual-ness, and XML docs, delegating to the dispatcher. - **`MasterNodeManager.NodeManagement.cs`** (new partial) — the AddNodes/DeleteNodes/AddReferences/DeleteReferences service family plus NodeId-based reference plumbing. These sit between the two concerns by design: they dispatch per item but serialize address-space mutation against runtime lifecycle operations, and are the only service methods allowed to take the dynamic-mutation semaphore. The dispatcher's crossings back into `MasterNodeManager` are a small audited set: internal dispatch resolves handles through the owner's public virtual `GetManagerHandleAsync` (10 sites), so derived-class overrides keep affecting internal routing exactly as before; event paths consume the notification-dispatch lease accessors (5 sites, widened to internal); retired-generation drain is signalled through a new one-line internal helper instead of touching the observer field (2 sites); and the browse continuation-point limit is read live per call (2 sites). ## Compatibility - `IMasterNodeManager` is untouched; no public or protected member changes signature or loses `virtual`. - The `MasterNodeManagerWithLimits` test-framework subclass (overrides `BrowseAsync`, uses `ValidatePermissionsAsync`, the per-item `BrowseAsync`, `UpdateDiagnostics`, `Server`) passes unchanged. - Reflection-dependent tests keep working: `m_maxContinuationPointsPerBrowse` remains a private field on the type and is read live on every call; `PreHydrateMonitoredItemQueuesAsync` remains as a private delegating method. - Reviewable API-surface deltas, both additive: six `protected static` validators became `protected internal static` (same pattern as the existing `ValidateRolePermissions`) so the dispatcher can call them, and the three notification-lease nested types went `private` → `internal`. Reviewing tip: `git diff --color-moved=dimmed-zebra` renders the two move commits as almost entirely dimmed blocks; the non-move edits are confined to the audited call sites above and the delegation stubs. Grepping the dispatcher for `IDynamicNodeManagerHost|m_dynamicMutationSemaphore|m_startupShutdownSemaphoreSlim|m_retiredGeneration|m_preparingNodeManagers` matches only its own boundary-contract doc comment. ## Verification - Full `UA.slnx` build with 0 errors; `Opc.Ua.Server` itself builds with 0 warnings. - Full `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` on net10.0: 4707 passed, 0 failed (5 pre-existing skips). - Targeted: MasterNodeManager/Deterministic/NodeManagement 189/189; NodeManagerLifecycle/MonitoredItemLifecycle/MonitoredItem 406/406; `ContinuationPointInBatch` (subclass contract) 28/28. - `docs/NodeManagers.md` documents the new internal split. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4098 ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have added tests that prove my fix is effective or that my feature works and increased code coverage. _(pure refactoring; behavior is pinned by the existing MasterNodeManager, deterministic, node-management, lifecycle, and monitored-item suites, which all pass unchanged)_ - [x] I have added all necessary documentation. - [x] I have verified that my changes do not introduce (new) build or analyzer warnings. - [ ] I ran **all** tests locally using the **UA.slnx** solution against at least .net **framework** and .net **10**, and all passed. _(full server suite green on net10.0; .NET Framework run pending CI)_ - [ ] I fixed **all** failing and flaky tests in the CI pipelines and **all** CodeQL warnings. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Copilot Autofix powered by AI <175728472+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Marc Schier <marcschier@users.noreply.github.com> |

Fluent: publish Configure-created nodes' references on foreign-manager nodes (Objects folder placement) (#4331)
# Description A node created inside the fluent `Configure` hook (source-generated `[NodeManager]` partial, or the hosting `AddNodeManager(uri, build)` route) had no way to appear below the Objects folder — or below any node owned by another node manager. `AsyncCustomNodeManager.AddReverseReferencesAsync` mirrors inverse references into the `externalReferences` dictionary **before** the `Configure` partials run, and the fluent surface never sees the dictionary, so a configure-created node with an inverse `Organizes` reference to `ObjectsFolder` existed and simulated but never showed up under Objects. This implements the three coordinated pieces proposed in #4329, plus the companion namespace gap: **1. Idempotent mirroring pass** (independently worthwhile hardening) - `AddExternalReference` in `AsyncCustomNodeManager` and `CustomNodeManager2` now has if-missing semantics (linear scan of the per-source list). - `TypeTable.AddEncoding` no longer appends a duplicate encoding id; re-registering the same encoding is a succeeding no-op. (`AddRootNotifierAsync` and the node-side `AddReferenceIfMissing` branch were already idempotent.) **2. Re-run the pass after `Configure`** - New protected `FluentNodeManagerBase.CompleteConfigureAsync(externalReferences, ct)` wraps `AddReverseReferencesAsync` so hand-written managers using `CreateFluentBuilder` benefit too. - The generator-emitted `CreateAddressSpaceAsync` and the hosting `FluentNodeManager` invoke it once between the `Configure` callbacks and `Seal()`. Timing is safe: the master distributes `externalReferences` only after every manager's `CreateAddressSpaceAsync` returns. Side benefit: inverse `HasNotifier` references on configure-created event sources get root-notifier registration for free. - The hosting `FluentNodeManager`'s hand-rolled `externalReferences` workaround for its root folder is deleted — the root's inverse `Organizes` reference now flows through the shared pass (mirrored exactly once, covered by a test). **3. Discoverable fluent sugar** - `OrganizedBy(parentId)` / `UnderObjectsFolder()` on `INodeBuilder` write the inverse `Organizes` reference; with piece 2, placement is just "write the inverse reference". - A parentless `CreateInstance<TState>` on `INodeManagerBuilder` takes a constructor-style factory (`p => new BoilerState(p)`, keeping the surface reflection-free and AOT-safe), materializes the subtree from the type model via `NodeState.Create`, rebases all NodeIds through the manager's `INodeIdFactory` (`AssignInstanceNodeId`/`AssignInstanceChildNodeIds` — the same pair the generated factories use, so declaration-id children cannot collide with the type model), and registers via `AddPredefinedNodeSynchronously`. The Boiler #2 shape becomes fully fluent: ```csharp builder.CreateInstance( new QualifiedName("Boiler #2", NamespaceIndexes[1]), p => new BoilerState(p)) .Configure(n => n.UnderObjectsFolder()); ``` **Companion gap, same theme:** `[NodeManager]` grows `AdditionalNamespaceUris`, flowing through attribute discovery → binding → generator so the generated constructor reports a second (instance) namespace at construction and the generated factory advertises it in `NamespacesUris` — today `SetNamespaces` after construction is not enough because `MasterNodeManager` builds its namespace routing from what the manager reported when it was built. **Scope boundary** (as discussed in the issue): startup-time configuration only; for nodes created after startup the correct primitive remains `IMasterNodeManager.AddReferencesAsync`. **Reviewer notes** - The generated-code change was validated against the real pipeline: a forced fresh compile of `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` (whose CoverageNodeSet managers are `[NodeManager]`-generated) emits `await CompleteConfigureAsync(externalReferences, cancellationToken)` between `Configure` and `Seal()` and compiles against the real base class. - The distribution consumer (`AddReferencesAsync`) already used `AddReferenceIfMissing`, so the whole chain is defense-in-depth idempotent. - 15 new tests: double-run idempotence, second-pass pickup of late-registered nodes, the new reference sugar, root-instance creation incl. child-id rebasing and reference remapping, hosting end-to-end Objects-folder placement, emitted-sequence and `AdditionalNamespaceUris` generator tests, and a full Roslyn-pipeline attribute test. Docs updated in `docs/NodeManagers.md` (new "Creating nodes under other managers' nodes" section, attribute docs, fluent-surface sections). - Verified locally: all touched projects build with 0 warnings; full `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` (4,725 passed / 0 failed / 5 skipped, net9.0), `TypeTableTests` (113), `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests` (41), `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Tests` (132), and the Quickstarts.Servers sample all pass. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4329 - Motivating case: OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard-Samples#756 / OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard-Samples#795 (Workshop/Boiler migration) ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Add MinSupportedSamplingInterval configuration and honor it when revising sampling intervals (#4243)
# Description PR #4194 removed the unused `ServerConfiguration.MinMetadataSamplingInterval` and left nothing in its place. As a result there was no way to populate `Server.ServerCapabilities.MinSupportedSampleRate` (`i=2272`) — `ServerInternalData.CreateServerObjectAsync` hardcoded it to `0`. Separately, the only clamp applied when revising a monitored item's sampling interval was the per-node `BaseVariableState.MinimumSamplingInterval`, which defaults to `MinimumSamplingIntervals.Continuous` (`0`), so reference-server nodes accepted any requested interval (e.g. 10 ms) unrevised — exactly what was reported. This adds a configuration entry **in the exact schema slot #4194 vacated** and enforces it as a lower bound. ## Configuration - **`ServerConfiguration.MinSupportedSamplingInterval`** — `double` (milliseconds), default `0`, `[DataTypeField(Order = 17)]`, i.e. between `MaxNotificationsPerPublish` (16) and `AvailableSamplingRates` (18). - `ApplicationConfiguration.xsd` — `<xs:element name="MinSupportedSamplingInterval" type="xs:double" minOccurs="0" />` in the same position the removed element occupied. - Fluent API **`SetMinSupportedSamplingInterval(double)`** on `IApplicationConfigurationBuilderServerOptions`, in the place `SetMinMetadataSamplingInterval` was removed from. - The element is added to the six config XML files #4194 touched (reference / CTT / AOT / GDS use `0`; `test-server-full.xml` uses a distinctive non-zero value for the round-trip test). The address-space Property keeps its OPC UA spec name, so `Server.ServerCapabilities.MinSupportedSampleRate` and `VariableIds.Server_ServerCapabilities_MinSupportedSampleRate` are unchanged. ```xml <MaxNotificationsPerPublish>1000</MaxNotificationsPerPublish> <MinSupportedSamplingInterval>2000</MinSupportedSamplingInterval> <AvailableSamplingRates> ``` ```csharp application.Build(applicationUri, productUri) .AsServer([endpointUrl]) .SetMinSupportedSamplingInterval(2000); ``` ## Behavior - `ServerInternalData` now publishes the configured value to `Server.ServerCapabilities.MinSupportedSampleRate`. - New `SubscriptionManager.CalculateRevisedSamplingInterval(...)` (two overloads, alongside the existing `CalculateRevisedQueueSize`) centralizes the revision rule and replaces the logic that was duplicated across four call sites — the create and modify paths of `AsyncCustomNodeManager` and `CustomNodeManager` — which now expose a `MinSupportedSamplingInterval` property seeded from the configuration (mirroring how `MaxQueueSize` is initialized). The rule: 1. A requested interval below zero resolves to the *default sampling interval*: the **publishing interval of the subscription** on create, and the item's **current sampling interval** on modify. The modify case preserves 1.5.378 behavior, so a `ModifyMonitoredItems` call that leaves the sampling interval unspecified does not silently retune the item. 2. A node declaring `MinimumSamplingIntervals.Continuous` (`0`) for the `Value` Attribute reports **by exception** and is **not** bound by the server-wide minimum — the requested interval is returned unchanged. 3. Every other item is raised to `max(nodeMinimumSamplingInterval, MinSupportedSamplingInterval)`. Attributes other than `Value`, nodes declaring `MinimumSamplingIntervals.Indeterminate` (`-1`), and non-Variable nodes are bound only by `MinSupportedSamplingInterval`. 4. `double.MaxValue` is capped to one year (pre-existing behavior, now in one place). Event monitored items do not sample and are unaffected. **Backward compatible:** with the default of `0` the computation is identical to the previous code for every input, including `Continuous`, `Indeterminate`, positive node minimums, non-`Value` attributes and `NaN`. No existing configuration or deployment changes behavior. Node managers that implement `INodeManager` directly can call the new public helper to apply the same rule. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4191 The issue thread also asked whether `Subscription.MaxNotificationsPerPublish` is revised by the server. It is (`SubscriptionManager.CalculateMaxNotificationsPerPublish`), but it was untested and is not observable from the `CreateSubscription` response, which carries no revised field for that parameter. Four tests were added that assert it through `SubscriptionDiagnostics.MaxNotificationsPerPublish` on a privileged session, covering create and modify, the above-limit, below-limit and `0` (server default) cases. ## Tests - **`SamplingIntervalRevisionTests`** (17 unit tests, `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests`) — the full revision matrix: negative request resolving to the default interval, the `Continuous` bypass, `Indeterminate`, node minimum above *and* below the floor, a floor of `0` being a no-op, non-`Value` attributes, non-Variable and null nodes, and the `double.MaxValue` cap. - **`MinSupportedSamplingIntervalTests`** (10 integration tests, `Opc.Ua.Subscriptions.Tests`) — against a reference server configured with a 500 ms floor: the capabilities node reflects the configuration; a node declaring 100 ms is lifted to 500 ms; `Scalar_Static_Arrays2D_LocalizedText` (1000 ms) wins over the floor; `CurrentTime` (250 ms) is lifted; a `Continuous` node keeps its 10 ms; a non-`Value` attribute is floored; `ModifyMonitoredItems` behaves the same in both directions; event items are unaffected. - Restored the configuration builder and round-trip test coverage that #4194 deleted. - `TestFixture` gained a `protected virtual void ConfigureServer(ApplicationConfiguration)` hook so a derived fixture can vary the server configuration before start. Default implementation is a no-op, so no existing fixture changes behavior. ## Documentation - `docs/Subscriptions.md` — new **Sampling interval revision** section with the input table, the four-step rule (including both negative-interval fallbacks), XML and fluent configuration examples, and guidance for custom node managers. - `docs/migrate/2.0.x/configuration.md` — new section documenting that `MinMetadataSamplingInterval` was removed and `MinSupportedSamplingInterval` added. Verified against `master378`: the old setting defaulted to `1000` but was never read, and `MinSupportedSampleRate` was hardcoded to `0` with no server-wide floor. The guide therefore stresses that these are **two different settings, not a rename** — consumers should drop the old element (a default of `0` reproduces 1.5.378 exactly) and only opt into the new one deliberately, since reusing the old value would silently introduce a sampling floor. ## Validation - `dotnet build UA.slnx` — **0 warnings, 0 errors** across all TFMs. - .NET 10: `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` 4091 passed, `Opc.Ua.Subscriptions.Tests` 619 passed (full suite including the new fixture), `Opc.Ua.InformationModel.Tests` 1063 passed, `Opc.Ua.Configuration.Tests` 221 passed, `Opc.Ua.Gds.Tests` 119 passed. - .NET Framework 4.8: new unit tests (200 incl. sampling groups), new integration tests (17) and configuration round-trip (135) all passed. - `ConsoleReferenceServer` starts successfully with the updated configuration file. ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [x] I have added tests that prove my fix is effective or that my feature works and increased code coverage. - [x] I have added all necessary documentation. - [x] I have verified that my changes do not introduce (new) build or analyzer warnings. - [x] I ran **all** tests locally using the **UA.slnx** solution against at least .net **framework** and .net **10**, and all passed. - [ ] I fixed **all** failing and flaky tests in the CI pipelines and **all** CodeQL warnings. - [x] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 79f8090c-b2a3-409c-a5bf-56b6d2a35e70 |

Retire the last exposed locks: node, browser, server diagnostics and application properties (#4222)
Closes #4201. Closes #4202. Closes #4203. Closes #4215. Closes #4216. (#4215 and #4216 are @marcschier's originals from the #4188 review; #4202 and #4201 are my later duplicates of the same two findings. All four describe the two changes in section 1 and are closed together.) **This PR now carries what was #4221 as well.** The two were a stack; they have been unstacked and combined here, and #4221 is closed. Everything below the "Read the server diagnostics" section is the work that was previously reviewed as #4221. --- ## 1. The browse path guards itself, and the last node locks are gone `AsyncCustomNodeManager` kept two `lock (source)` sites around `CreateBrowser`, carrying a NOTE that browser creation was not internally synchronized. `NodeBrowser` still handed its lock to derived types through `protected Lock DataLock`. `NodeState.CreateBrowser` now holds a browse lock across `PopulateBrowser` and `OnPopulateBrowser`, so browser construction on a node is serialized — which is what the external `lock (source)` was actually providing, and what a handler that mutates the node during population (the historian's lazy config installer) depends on. Both `lock (source)` statements and the NOTE are gone. **What that lock does not do**, stated plainly in the XML docs and in `docs/NodeManagers.md` rather than over-promised: it is not an atomic snapshot across the node's children, notifiers and references. Writers take those collections' own locks, not the browse lock. The browser is a point-in-time copy and each collection is read consistently, but the combination is not a transaction. No `lock` takes a `NodeState` as its sync root any more. That was the last thing keeping `NodeState` from being documentably self-guarding, so the other eleven went with it: `lock (activeNode)`, `lock (target)`, `lock (source.Node)`, `lock (target.Node)`, `lock (notifier)`, `lock (handle.Node)` in `AsyncCustomNodeManager`, and `lock (node)` in `CustomNodeManager2`. Most were a check-then-act pair now served by `NodeState.AddReferenceIfMissing`, which does the check and the insert under the node's own lock. `NodeBrowser.DataLock` is removed. A browser is **single-consumer**: it belongs to whoever created it, and both server browse paths already serialize on the owning side. The exposed lock only added an inheritance-level locking contract that a derived browser could not reason about. ## 2. Read the server diagnostics under the lock every writer takes `OnUpdateDiagnostics` locked the diagnostics **payload** rather than the lock every writer takes through `UpdateServerDiagnostics`, so the snapshot a client reads from the `ServerDiagnostics` node was never excluded from a concurrent writer. Both halves matter, and the second is the one that is easy to miss: ```csharp lock (m_diagnosticsLock) // was: lock (ServerDiagnostics) { value = Variant.FromStructure(ServerDiagnostics, copy: true); // was: copy defaulted to false } ``` `copy: true` is what makes it a snapshot. `FromStructure(value, copy: false)` does `new ExtensionObject(value, copy)` — it wraps the **live** structure without copying it, so the caller would read the fields long after the lock was released and see them change underneath. Swapping the lock alone would have looked like a fix while still excluding nothing. ## 3. Analyzer numbering The browser rule is **UA0027**, not UA0025. This branch had independently taken UA0025 for `NodeBrowser.DataLock` while #4188 published UA0025 for `ILocalNode.DataLock` and UA0026 for `BaseVariableValue.Lock`. Master's are shipped, so they keep the numbers: | | UA0025 | UA0026 | UA0027 | |---|---|---|---| | master (#4188) | `ILocalNode.DataLock` | `BaseVariableValue.Lock` | — | | **this PR** | `ILocalNode.DataLock` | `BaseVariableValue.Lock` | **`NodeBrowser.DataLock`** | Both sides had written a different `UA0025Tests.cs`, which arrived as an add/add conflict. They are now split: `UA0025Tests.cs` holds master's `ILocalNode` tests, `UA0027Tests.cs` holds the `NodeBrowser` ones. UA0024's help text also drops its reference to `ReadServerDiagnostics`, which #4193 removed as unused, and names `ISession.ReadDiagnostics` / `ISubscription.ReadDiagnostics` instead — those do still exist. ## 4. Two more locks reachable from outside their owner **`ApplicationConfiguration.PropertiesLock` is removed.** It returned the properties dictionary itself, so `lock (configuration.PropertiesLock)` was `lock (configuration.Properties)` — the lock *was* the data it guarded, the same shape as #4203. It had exactly one production consumer (`OAuth2CredentialCollection.Load`, a get-or-add with `ParseExtension` called inside the lock), so it could not simply be deleted. `Properties` is now a `ConcurrentDictionary` — same public type, every operation atomic on its own — and the one multi-operation need gets a member of its own: ```csharp public T GetOrAddProperty<T>(string key, Func<T> valueFactory); ``` It deliberately does **not** invoke the factory under a lock, so `ParseExtension` now runs outside any critical section. Holding a lock across a caller-supplied callback is exactly the shape that produced the attribute/diagnostics deadlock earlier in this work. The two existing tests asserted only `PropertiesLock is not null`, so they tested nothing but its presence. They are replaced by tests of the contract: factory runs once for a missing key, not at all for a present one, 32 concurrent callers all observe the same instance, null arguments throw. `PropertiesLock` ships in 1.5.378, so this is a breaking removal — migration guide section plus analyzer **UA0028**. **`SharedDefinitionCache` no longer hands out its lock.** Three sites in `SharedKeyValueSubscriptionStore` took the nested cache's `Lock` to operate on the cache's own dictionary. Both are private now, behind `ReplaceAll` and `CloneWhere`. `SnapshotCommitLock` stays exposed on purpose: it is a `SemaphoreSlim` sequencing an async commit across `await` points, which `System.Threading.Lock` cannot span, so folding it in would change behaviour rather than hide a lock. ## Verification Merged `master` (`0edfe237a`, including #4234) with no conflicts. - `dotnet build UA.slnx` — 0 warnings, 0 errors - `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` — 4074 passed - `Opc.Ua.Types.Tests` — 8501 passed - `Opc.Ua.MigrationAnalyzer.Tests` — 151 passed on all five TFMs (138 → 151, the new ones being UA0027 and UA0028) - `Opc.Ua.Core.Tests` — 4249 passed - `Opc.Ua.Redundancy.Server.Tests` — 573 passed ## Note for the reviewer @romanett — your approval was given when this PR's diff was the 7 diagnostics files, because it was measured against `marcschier/node-browse-locks`. Now that the two are combined and the base is `master`, the diff is 23 files, and the extra 16 are the node/browser lock work that was #4221. GitHub kept the approval across the retarget, but it did not cover that code, so please re-review rather than let it ride. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: e9c13dd0-a6e3-4ad2-8ad6-1c3fe6323041 Copilot-Session: b3c0e146-5b9e-4d08-a0f6-db3f940484b1 Copilot-Session: d18f87e9-2484-44ce-98ce-463ba6cf5f63 Copilot-Session: 0ee22c1d-c319-4257-bf78-a5a077a1824a |

[WotCon] Add OPC UA WoT Connectivity 1.1 with the Types, source generation, Server and xRegistry work it builds on (#4128)
## Summary Adds OPC UA WoT Connectivity 1.1 to the stack, together with the Types, source generation, Server and xRegistry work it is built on. This branch is the merge point for the fourteen-PR stack that replaced integration PR #4093; every constituent PR was reviewed and approved separately and is listed below. 414 files changed, +108,936 / -3,199. Roughly 46k added lines of product code, 57k of tests, plus samples, tools and documentation. ## Types - Complete `ExtensionObject` raw-body decoding for binary, XML and JSON bodies by resolving the concrete type through the message context's encodeable factory, and simplify the `Variant` structure helpers by delegating to it (#4128). - Add `IAtomicFileReplace` as an optional `IFileSystem` capability so existing external implementations keep working, with atomic publish for `LocalFileSystem` via `File.Replace`/`File.Move` and for `VirtualFileSystem` by re-keying the in-memory entry (#4128). - Add lossless conversion between WoT documents and NodeSet2 (`Opc.Ua.Wot.WotNodeSetConverter`). A byte-exact `uav:nodeSet` envelope is preserved when requested, the structured `uav:nodes` projection is used when the readable vocabulary is incomplete, and NodeSet2 is otherwise synthesized from readable WoT terms. Unmapped JSON members survive a round trip as pointer-addressed residue (#4131). ## Source generation - Improve the NodeSet to ModelDesign conversion and the generated node state (#4132). - Generate OPC UA models directly from WoT Thing Description files (#4134). ## Server - Add live NodeManager shadow and immediate reload. A reload materializes a new generation beside the active one and switches atomically; the superseded generation is retired gracefully so existing MonitoredItems keep being served until they drain, or immediately when the caller asks for it. Includes the request admission and drain machinery that lets an orderly shutdown wait for admitted requests instead of tearing down underneath them (#4147). - Make subscription transfer between sessions transactional, so a failed transfer leaves neither session holding a partially moved subscription (#4150). ## xRegistry - Allow clients to use explicit registry roots rather than assuming a well-known location (#4130). ## WoT Connectivity - Add the WoT Connectivity 1.1 information model: a registry-first revision layered on the abstract xRegistry base model, incorporating the complete published OPC 10100-1 v1.02 surface as deprecated nodes in the same namespace so existing 1.02 clients keep working (#4139). - Add the protocol binding abstractions and planners that compile WoT forms into executable plans (#4140). - Add the HTTP, Modbus, OPC UA and MQTT binding executors (#4144). - Add the registry and its stores, including document versioning, validation, dependency resolution and refresh (#4146). - Add the registry client (#4142). - Materialize WoT Thing Descriptions into the server address space, deriving types from Thing Models and instances from Thing Descriptions (#4154). - Restore the WoT asset registry bridge so the deprecated 1.02 asset surface is backed by the registry (#4171). - Add the WoT Connectivity samples and complete the documentation (#4156), and restore the remaining coverage and docs (#4172). ## New projects `src/Opc.Ua.WotCon.Bindings`, `src/Opc.Ua.WotCon.Bindings.Mqtt`, `tests/Opc.Ua.WotCon.Bindings.Tests`, `tests/Opc.Ua.WotCon.Samples.Tests`, and the `samples/WotCon` AggregationServer, AggregationClient and FlatTagServer samples. ## Constituent pull requests Merged into this branch top-down, each independently approved: | PR | Title | | --- | --- | | #4128 | [Types] Complete ExtensionObject decoding and add an atomic file replace capability | | #4131 | [Types] Add lossless conversion between WoT documents and NodeSet2 | | #4132 | [SourceGeneration] Improve NodeSet to ModelDesign conversion and generated node state | | #4134 | [SourceGeneration] Generate OPC UA models from WoT Thing Description files | | #4147 | [Server] Add live NodeManager shadow and immediate reload | | #4150 | [Server] Make subscription transfer between sessions transactional | | #4130 | [XRegistry] Allow clients to use explicit registry roots | | #4139 | [WotCon] Add the WoT Connectivity 1.1 information model | | #4140 | [WotCon] Add the WoT protocol binding abstractions and planners | | #4144 | [WotCon] Add the HTTP, Modbus, OPC UA and MQTT binding executors | | #4146 | [WotCon] Add the WoT Connectivity registry and its stores | | #4142 | [WotCon] Add the WoT Connectivity registry client | | #4154 | [WotCon] Materialize WoT Thing Descriptions into the server address space | | #4156 | [WotCon] Add the WoT Connectivity samples and complete the documentation | | #4171 | Restore WoT asset registry bridge | | #4172 | Restore WoT coverage and docs | Supersedes #4093. ## Follow-up The WoT Connectivity and WoT Binding drafts have moved to 1.1-draft2 since this work was authored. Aligning with that revision - the removed group vocabulary, the new projection/View construct, the remaining model vocabulary terms and the two new portable-identity validation rules - is tracked separately and will follow in its own pull request. ## Validation Built for every target framework with zero warnings and zero errors, and validated at the tip of the stack with `Opc.Ua.WotCon.Tests` at 999 passed / 0 failed and `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` at 4024 passed / 0 failed. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 9e6a5abf-3299-4cd1-9855-010fedbf0ad8 |

Add a PumpX-2000 datasheet and diagrams to the pump sample (#4138)
# Description The `PumpDeviceIntegrationServer` sample simulates OPC 40223 pumps but had no product documentation, a thin nameplate, and a duty point that was not physically self-consistent. This PR gives the sample an **official-style product datasheet** for its simulated asset and aligns the server to it, so the document and the running address space cannot drift apart. ### New: `samples/PumpDeviceIntegrationServer/DATASHEET.md` A vendor-style datasheet for the fictitious *SimPump Corp PumpX-2000* (clearly marked as a simulated device): - Nameplate table mapped to OPC UA browse paths **and namespaces** (DI / Machinery / Pumps) - Best-efficiency duty point, characteristic curves and a performance table - Operating limits, motor / materials / dimensions data - Instrument list (tag → browse path → unit → `EURange`) and a Mermaid process schematic - Alarm trip points and the deterministic simulation profile ### Server aligned to the datasheet - `PumpDatasheet.cs` — the datasheet expressed as compile-time constants. - `MaterialiseNameplate` — materialises the 19 optional identification properties through the generator-emitted `AddXxx(context)` helpers, so each carries the browse name, namespace and DataType declared by the model (21 nameplate fields in total per pump). - `WithIdentification` now assigns the full datasheet nameplate to **every** simulated unit. Product-level fields are shared; unit-level fields (`SerialNumber`, `AssetId`, `ComponentName`, `Location`, `FabricationNumber`) are derived from the pump number, so `--pumps N` yields a consistent nameplate for each instance. - **Simulation rebuilt around the datasheet curves.** Volumetric flow is the only independent variable; differential pressure, mass flow, efficiency and shaft power are derived from `H(Q) = 32 − 0.0104·Q²`, `η(Q) = 72·(1 − 0.6·((Q−25)/25)²)` and `P = ρ·g·Q·H/η`, so `P = Δp·Q/η` holds at every tick. Previously every measurement was an independent sine and the sample published 5 kW of shaft power for 0.05 kg/s at 2 bar Δp. - `EURange` values now come from the datasheet; `OverTempAlarm` reports the `BearingTemperature` chain (the correct `SourceNode` for an alarm whose limits are in Kelvin) rather than a boolean; `Cavitation` and `MotorOverheat` are derived from suction level and bearing temperature with hysteresis instead of `tick % n`. ### Diagrams The sample README gains a simulated-device summary, a link to the datasheet, and three Mermaid diagrams: **address space**, **startup / hosting sequence**, and **simulation + alarm dataflow**. ### Drift protection `PumpDatasheetConformanceTests` pins the nameplate, engineering ranges, trip points, published-value envelope and hydraulic consistency against the datasheet, and the exact pump node-surface baseline in `PumpInstanceNodeIdRegressionTests` covers the new identification properties. No changes to `src/` — this is sample, test and documentation only. ### Rebased on #4117 master has been merged into this branch. #4117 reshaped the same sample (loop-based pump creation via `--pumps N`, `Pump_1` / `Pump_2` BrowseNames with `Pump #n` DisplayNames, historian wiring, `WireBoolean`, per-pump `Diagnostics` group). Both intents are preserved: - the datasheet nameplate is applied through upstream's per-pump `WithIdentification(builder, pump, pumpNumber)` hook, so it scales to `--pumps N`; - `Program.cs` is left exactly as upstream has it — identification is configured centrally, so the old per-pump block there is gone; - the datasheet curve values are published through upstream's status-code / source-timestamp plumbing, and upstream's `WireBoolean` (TrueState/FalseState text + history) is kept; - the node-surface baseline is the union of both identification lists; - `docs/SourceGeneratedNodeManagers.md` was consolidated upstream into `docs/NodeManagers.md`, so the snippet fixes were ported there. ## Related Issues _No tracking issue; this is a documentation and sample-quality improvement to the pump reference sample._ ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. ### Verification (post-merge) - `dotnet build samples/PumpDeviceIntegrationServer` (net10.0): 0 warnings, 0 errors - `dotnet build tests/Opc.Ua.Di.Tests` (net10.0): 0 warnings, 0 errors - `dotnet test tests/Opc.Ua.Di.Tests -f net10.0`: **331/331 passed** (includes upstream's new `PumpAddressSpaceComplianceTests` and `DiConformanceFacetTests`) - `dotnet test tests/Opc.Ua.Di.Tests -f net48 --filter Pump`: **44/44 passed** - Live client read against the merged sample: Δp 214 079 Pa, ṁ 8.654 kg/s, η 69.33 %, P 2 677.4 W — `Δp·(ṁ/ρ)/η` matches the published shaft power; `Pump_1` reads SN-001 / PMP-1001 / Feed Pump A / Bay 3 and `Pump_2` reads SN-002 / PMP-1002 / Feed Pump B / Bay 4, exactly as documented. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: fe608993-f3c9-4779-a6b9-9a9eabfc24ba |

Make NodeId assignment during a node copy explicit (#4157)
Fixes #4137. ## The problem `NodeState.Initialize(ISystemContext, NodeState)` copies a node. Every child it materialises through `CreateChild` gets a per-instance NodeId from `ISystemContext.NodeIdFactory`, and is then initialised from its source on the very next statement - which overwrites that NodeId. The assignment is therefore *always* discarded: it only burns identifiers, and permanently leaks them for factories that track outstanding allocations. Booting the Robotics node manager left ten reservations behind that every later allocation skipped. #4123 fixed the symptom by hiding the factory for the duration of the copy, wrapping the context in one that reports `NodeIdFactory` as `null`. The review objection was fair: a context that lies about one property is hard to reason about, and it only works because that property is allowed to be null. ## What this does States the intent instead of faking the environment. NodeId assignment is now an argument of the two members that materialise children: ```csharp public virtual BaseInstanceState? CreateChild( ISystemContext context, QualifiedName browseName, bool assignInstanceNodeIds = true); protected virtual BaseInstanceState? FindChild( ISystemContext context, QualifiedName browseName, bool createOrReplace, BaseInstanceState? replacement, bool assignInstanceNodeIds = true); ``` A copy passes `assignInstanceNodeIds: false` and every node type - generated or hand-written - sees the real context. There is no capability property, no wrapper, and no second overload to keep in sync. `MethodState`, `BaseDataVariableState` and the source generator template each collapse to a single `FindChild` override that threads the argument into its `CreateOrReplace<Child>` helpers. ## Breaking change The four argument `FindChild` and the two argument `CreateChild` virtuals are gone. - **Call sites are unaffected.** The new parameter defaults to `true`, so `CreateChild(context, browseName)` and `FindChild(context, browseName, true, null)` keep compiling and keep the 1.5.378 behaviour. - **Overrides must add the parameter.** A node manager that overrides either member gets `CS0115` until it does. The compiler points at every site; `docs/migrate/2.0.x/node-states.md` shows the before/after. This is deliberate, per review: the stack ships all base types, and types generated from a model are regenerated for 2.0 anyway. ## Also fixed `MethodState.FindChild` returned `OutputArguments` when asked for `InputArguments` with `createOrReplace: false` - a pre-existing bug in the method being restructured. Covered by `FindChildReturnsTheRequestedArgumentsProperty`. ## Validation - Full `dotnet build UA.slnx`: **0 errors, 0 warnings**. - `Opc.Ua.Types.Tests`, `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests`, `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Tests`, `Opc.Ua.Di.Tests`, `Opc.Ua.Robotics.Tests` - all passing. - Each new regression test was checked to fail without its corresponding fix. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Copilot Autofix powered by AI <175728472+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 8cbb8cd0-f0cb-4ab0-bea2-6202fbf69485 Copilot-Session: f45109d9-59cb-4ffd-a4f7-16e1ea449ae4 |

Replace the RequestManager AsyncLocal guard with an explicit operation context (#4163)
# Description `RequestManager` tracked whether the calling flow was serving a Client request in a `private readonly AsyncLocal<bool> m_inServiceDispatch`. It was set by a `StandardServer.ProcessRequestAsync` override and read by `NodeManagerLifecycle`, so that a lifecycle operation (`AddAsync` / `ReloadAsync` / `RemoveAsync`) started from inside a request fails fast with `InvalidOperationException` instead of draining — and therefore waiting for — its own request. Two problems with that mechanism, raised in review of #4093: 1. An `AsyncLocal<T>` written inside an `async` method never flows back to the caller that awaited it, so every scope had to chain to the previous value by hand and restore it on dispose. Subtle, and easy to get wrong when a new entry point is added. 2. Ambient state is invisible at the call site, so the lifetime of the mark could not be reasoned about from the code that depended on it — especially once work is handed to a background task. `RequestManager` also had no business carrying ambient state on behalf of a different subsystem; its job is tracking requests for the drain. ## What changed The guard is now an **exact identity lookup** against the request registry `RequestManager` already maintains, and the operation is threaded **explicitly**: * **`RequestManager`** — `internal bool IsExecutingRequest(IOperationContext?)` performs a reference-identity lookup against `m_requests` under the existing `m_requestsLock`. `m_inServiceDispatch`, `EnterServiceDispatchScope()`, the nested `ServiceDispatchScope` class and the flag-based `IsExecutingRequest` property are gone. * **`StandardServer`** — the `ProcessRequestAsync` override is removed; it existed only to open the dispatch scope. * **`INodeManagerLifecycle`** — every member (`AddAsync` ×2 factory kinds, `ReloadAsync` ×2, `RemoveAsync`) now takes the caller's `IOperationContext?` directly, ahead of `CancellationToken ct = default`. No overloads and no parallel signature are kept: the interface is new in 2.0 and outside the 1.5.378 compatibility rule, so call sites state their context explicitly or pass `null`. * **`HostedNodeManagerLifecycle`** and **`RuntimeNodeSetLifecycleExtensions`** thread the argument through; `AddRuntimeNodeSetAsync` / `ReloadRuntimeNodeSetAsync` remain single methods. * **`SystemContextOperationExtensions.GetOperationContext(this ISystemContext)`** (new, `Opc.Ua.Core`) lets a NodeManager or Method callback hand over the operation it already received without downcasting. It switches on `SessionSystemContext` and `SystemContext`, the two independent roots every context derives from. No new interface is introduced: casting the context to `IOperationContext` would not do, because a context implements that by delegating to the operation it was created for, so the cast yields the context rather than the operation. * **`NodeManagerLifecycle.EnsureNotRequestCallback`** no longer consults `ServerState`. The previous `CurrentState == Running` predicate could let a genuinely re-entrant call slip past while the server was shutting down; the request registry answers exactly in every state. A NodeManager or Method callback now reads: ```csharp await m_lifecycle.ReloadAsync(m_registration, replacement, context.GetOperationContext(), ct); ``` and a control-plane caller (hosted service, DI consumer) passes `null`. ## Behaviour Unchanged for the case the guard exists to catch: a lifecycle call made on behalf of an executing request is still rejected up front with the same `InvalidOperationException` and the same message. Two deliberate differences: * **Improvement** — an internal `OperationContext` that was never enrolled as a Client request is now correctly allowed through. The boolean flag could not distinguish it from a real request. * **Accepted trade-off** — a caller inside a request that passes no operation is no longer detected at entry and falls back to the pre-existing bounded `RequestManager.RequestDrainTimeout`, which already covered any request that bypassed the service pipeline. Automatic detection for an uncooperative caller inherently requires ambient state, which is exactly what this change removes. Documented in `docs/NodeManagers.md`. ## Alternatives considered and rejected | Alternative | Why rejected | | --- | --- | | Delete the guard, rely only on `RequestDrainTimeout` | Turns a clear immediate error into a multi-minute hang. | | Infer the caller from the `CancellationToken` it passes | Works only for the exact request token, breaks on linked tokens; ambient magic of a different kind. | | In-flight callback counter on `MasterNodeManager` | False positives: rejects legitimate control-plane calls whenever any request is concurrently dispatching. | | Defer the drain to a background task so re-entrancy cannot deadlock | The drains are woven into transactional commit / rollback and binding reconciliation; deferring them breaks the transactional guarantees. | | `Activity.Current` / `ThreadLocal` | The same ambient magic the issue asks to remove. | ## Testing * `RequestManagerTests` — the three `EnterServiceDispatchScope` tests are replaced by coverage for `IsExecutingRequest(context)`: null, never-registered, only-while-scope-open, visible across an `await` and a background `Task.Run`, and two concurrently executing requests not confusing each other. * `NodeManagerLifecycleTests` — rejection from an executing request for Add / Reload / Remove without invoking the factory, acceptance for a context that is not an executing request, acceptance once the request has completed, and the full callback shape (`ServerSystemContext.Copy(operation)` → `GetOperationContext()` → rejected). * `HostedNodeManagerLifecycleTests` — forwarding tests for the caller-context argument on all five members. * `tests/Opc.Ua.Core.Tests/Stack/State/SystemContextOperationExtensionsTests.cs` (new) — `GetOperationContext` across both context roots and the null-argument guard. ## Related Issues - Fixes #4149 ## Checklist - [x] I have signed the [CLA](https://opcfoundation.org/license/cla/ContributorLicenseAgreementv1.0.pdf) and read the [CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/OPCFoundation/UA-.NETStandard/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md) doc. - [ ] I have addressed **all** PR feedback received. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Copilot-Session: 14402d11-e540-4faa-a5cd-94881bd7ce85 |

Fix OPC UA address-space compliance in the device integration stack (#4117)
# Description
A live OPC UA compliance audit of `samples/PumpDeviceIntegrationServer`
against the **OPC 40223 Pumps** and **OPC 10000-100 (DI)** companion
specifications found **13 address-space violations** plus a
serialization bug in the MCP tool. Every fix lands at its **root cause
in the shared stack** rather than as a workaround in the sample, so all
servers benefit.
The sample now exposes **N fully simulated pumps** (`--pumps N`) and
advertises the DI conformance facets it actually satisfies.
> This branch has been merged with `master` including **#4116** ("Add
simulation to PumpDeviceIntegrationServer and Event modelling"), which
independently reworked the same pump simulation and the same fluent
alarm builders. See [Relationship to #4116](#relationship-to-4116) below
for how the two were reconciled.
## Findings and fixes
| # | Finding | Root cause | Fix |
|---|---------|-----------|-----|
| 1 | `OverTempAlarm` created by the fluent API did not exist in the
address space | `AttachAlarm` attached the alarm with `AddChild` but
never indexed it into the node manager | Register the node; the same gap
existed in `AddObject`, `CreateInstance` and the state-machine creators
|
| 2 | Alarms were unsubscribable — `EventNotifier = 0` everywhere, no
`HasNotifier` from `Server` | No event-source wiring at all | Set
`HasCondition`, initialise
`SourceNode`/`SourceName`/`ConditionName`/`InputNode`, promote
`EventNotifier` up the ancestor chain, publish `HasNotifier` from the
`Server` object |
| 3 | Every instance NodeId was minted in the **DI standard namespace**
(`ns=4;s=5001_Pump #1`) | `DiNodeManager.New` inherited the parent's
namespace index | New `DiNodeManager.InstanceNamespaceIndex`; instances
move to the server's application namespace |
| 4 | `Server/Namespaces` described only 2 of 6 namespaces | The
NodeSet2 importer drops nodes parented to namespace 0, so companion-spec
metadata objects never reached the address space — and no route covered
the server's own namespace | New `NamespaceMetadataPublisher` walks the
`NamespaceArray` and fills version/publication date from
`ModelDependencyAttribute` |
| 5 | Vendor BrowseNames (`Diagnostics`, `LastError`, …) sat in the DI
namespace | Builders defaulted to the parent's namespace | Default to
the server namespace; **spec-defined BrowseNames are unchanged** |
| 6 | `AccessLevel="5"` from the Pumps NodeSet was reported as `1` | The
ModelDesign `AccessLevel` enum is not `[Flags]` and cannot represent
`CurrentRead \| HistoryRead` | Carry the verbatim NodeSet2 bitmask and
emit named `AccessLevels` constants |
| 7 | `Historizing = true` while `HistoryRead` returned
`BadHistoryOperationUnsupported` | Nothing reconciled the declared
history surface with the wired historians | Startup clears the
advertisement (including masking the attribute read callbacks) when no
provider resolves; the sample wires a real historian |
| 8 | Mandatory `ProductInstanceUri` unset | Sample omission | Populated
on every pump |
| 9 | Mandatory `TrueState`/`FalseState` empty on every supervision
boolean | Absent in the official NodeSet; a server must still populate
them | Populated on every pump |
| 10 | Machinery `Machines` folder empty (OPC 40001-1 §9.2 says
**shall**) | `TryAddToMachinesFolder` used `AddChild`, which
*re-parents* the device away from `DeviceSet` | Add the `Organizes`
reference instead |
| 11 | BrowseName contained a space and `#` | Sample naming | `Pump_1`
with the readable label in `DisplayName` |
| 12 | `Maintenance` group materialised but empty | Sample omission |
Populated |
| 13 | Uninitialised values reported `Good` | No initial-value status |
`BadWaitingForInitialData` until the first simulation tick |
| — | `ServerProfileArray` advertised only `StandardUA2017` |
`DiNodeManager` did not implement the existing `IConformanceContributor`
| Contribute DI 1.05 server facets computed at runtime from what is
actually wired, merged with `StandardUA2017` |
| — | MCP tool serialised boolean `false` and numeric `0` as JSON `null`
| `Variant.Null` is `default`, so `Variant.Equals` adopts the non-null
type and compares against the default value | Dispatch on `BuiltInType`
and use typed `TryGetValue` accessors instead of the prohibited
`AsBoxedObject` |
## Relationship to #4116
#4116 landed on `master` while this branch was in flight and targeted
overlapping ground. The merge is a **union of both intents**, not a
fast-forward:
- **`AlarmBuilderExtensions`** — kept both sides. #4116 contributes the
parent-must-be-an-Object guard, `SetEnableState`, and the
`HasEventSource` references; this branch contributes the `HasCondition`
reference, condition source initialisation, **registration of the alarm
with the node manager so it is browsable**, notifier promotion up the
whole ancestor chain, and root-notifier registration.
- **`SupervisionBuilderExtensions`** — took #4116's `SetAlarmActive`. It
is more spec-correct than this branch's version: it honours
`EnabledState`, resets Acked/Confirmed on activation, and computes
`Retain` per OPC 10000-9 so an unacknowledged Condition stays retained
after going inactive. This branch's null guard was kept so a malformed
alarm cannot dereference a missing `EnabledState`.
- **`PumpNodeManager.Configure.cs`** — took #4116's **push-based**
simulation (`RegisterPumpSimulation`, `CreatePumpSimulation`,
`IValueUpdater<T>`, `Initialize`/`Advance`/`Publish`, deterministic
per-pump phase offsets) as the structure, then folded in this branch's
compliance work: configurable pump count, Maintenance group,
`TrueState`/`FalseState`, historian wiring, per-pump mandatory
Identification values, and `BadWaitingForInitialData` until the first
tick.
- **README** — union, keeping #4116's address-space validation workflow
section.
Two test adjustments were needed, both because the merge legitimately
changed behaviour the tests pinned:
- `PumpHostedReferenceTests` now resolves pump NodeIds from the browse
result instead of hard-coding the DI namespace, and waits for the first
published value. `PumpCreatedAfterStartupJoinsTheLiveSimulationAsync`
was **added** to restore #4116's coverage that a pump created after
startup through `ConfigureDevicesFor` joins the live simulation.
- `FluentAlarmRegistrationIntegrationTests` no longer asserts that
`Retain` clears when an alarm goes inactive — that pinned this branch's
weaker semantics, and #4116's Part 9 behaviour is correct.
## Breaking change
Runtime-created DI device instance NodeIds move from the companion-spec
namespace to the server's application namespace, e.g.
`ns=<DI>;s=5001_Pump #1` becomes `ns=<application>;s=5001_Pump #1`. This
invalidates NodeIds cached by clients from earlier 2.0 previews. It is
**not** a model change — standard DI/Machinery/Pumps type NodeIds and
spec-defined BrowseNames are untouched.
Device integration hosting is new in 2.0, so there is nothing to migrate
from 1.5.378 and this is deliberately *not* in `docs/MigrationGuide.md`.
Anyone tracking 2.0 previews should rediscover devices by browsing
`DeviceSet` rather than persisting NodeIds, and resolve namespace
indexes from `NamespaceArray` per connection.
## Verification
Compliance is pinned by regression tests that assert **through the
server's service surface** (`BrowseAsync` / `ReadAsync` /
`HistoryReadAsync`), not by inspecting `NodeState` objects in memory.
That distinction mattered: three defects survived in-memory assertions
and were only caught through the read path — most subtly, `Historizing`
was cleared while `AccessLevel` still advertised `HistoryRead`, because
attribute read callbacks re-applied the NodeSet bits.
Post-merge on net10.0:
| Suite | Result |
|---|---|
| `Opc.Ua.Di.Tests` | 326 passed |
| `Opc.Ua.Server.Tests` | 3846 passed, 5 skipped |
| `Opc.Ua.Tools.Tests` | 288 passed |
| `Opc.Ua.History.Tests` | 506 passed, 27 skipped |
| `Opc.Ua.SourceGeneration.Core.Tests` | 3722 passed, 8 skipped |
The full solution was also built and tested on **net48** before the
merge.
Review feedback from `copilot-pull-request-reviewer` has been addressed
in commit `badad31dc`: the shared `ServerObjectState` lock was removed
(the forward `HasNotifier` edge is published through the owning node
manager instead), MCP array serialization now preserves element types,
and the pump option guards report the specific rejected option. The only
failure is
`ConfigureApplicationBuildsSharedClientAndServerConfigurationAsync`, a
pre-existing certificate-store issue that **passes when run in
isolation** and is unrelated to this change.
## Documentation
Updated `docs/DeviceIntegration.md`, `docs/MigrationGuide.md`,
`docs/HistoricalAccess.md`, `docs/DeveloperGuide.md`,
`docs/McpServer.md`, `docs/README.md`,
`samples/PumpDeviceIntegrationServer/README.md` and
`tools/Opc.Ua.Mcp/README.md`, and consolidated the four node-manager
documents into a single [`docs/NodeManagers.md`](docs/NodeManagers.md) —
overview, built-in managers (including `MasterNodeManager`), core vs
custom, registration, server address-space metadata, and source
generation — with a TOC and all inbound links repointed.
## Related Issues
No tracking issue exists for this work yet — it originated from an
ad-hoc compliance audit of the pump sample. Given the size of the change
and the runtime-breaking NodeId move, please open (or link) a tracking
issue so the design is recorded as an ADR before merging.
