This reverts commit 850e03d29f.
The previous commit solved this in a more general way. You can do:
[open-console]
profile-cond=p['user-data/mpv/console/open'] and p['current-tracks/video/albumart'] == false
profile-restore=copy
pause
Thankfully pause_on_open was just added and has not been in a release so
we can remove it.
Add a script-opt to pause when console opens and unpause when it closes,
disabled by default.
This is particularly useful for selectors that take several seconds to
open so you don't have to guess when to pause, like the subtitle line
selector with embedded subtitles, or my script which lets you select
which lyrics to download after requesting them with curl.
Show available completion suggestions as you type without having to
press Tab.
This is fast even on a 2011 CPU, so we can get away with doing this in
the same thread that draws the console. The one case where it could make
the console hang is file completion of network drives, but in general it
is convenient for loadfile.
mp.input.get clients also get a request to complete on each character
typed, but those run in a different thread so performance is always
fine, and completions were already rejected if the input line or cursor
changed after the request. If I ever make running mpv commands an
mp.input client in the future, command completion will also benefit from
running in a different thread.
The current OSD font size is excessively large, causing most
messages—except for very short ones to overflow horizontally.
I conducted testing across multiple devices of varying screen sizes and
under different scenarios. The adjusted font size strikes a good balance
for readability on non-high-DPI displays, while high-DPI displays should
utilize DPI scaling as needed.
Additionally, I compared the font sizes of subtitles and UI elements
across various VOD platforms, which generally use smaller font in most
cases.
The current sub font size was significantly larger than even PGS
subtitles, which are quite large on their own. Now, they are comparable.
The subtitle font size was chosen based on recommendations from the BBC
Subtitle Guidelines. It is set to 8% of the video height with a
recommended scaling factor of 0.67. Therefore, at 720p (the reference
size for mpv font scaling), the calculation is 8% * 0.67 * 720 = 38.592,
rounded down to 38. This value falls within the recommended scaling
range of x0.5–x1 for desktop PCs/Laptops and TVs (32"–42"). For more
information, see
https://www.bbc.co.uk/accessibility/forproducts/guides/subtitles/#Presentation-font-size.
OSD font size is smaller than font as those elements shouldn't be
distractful and only noticable when the user wants to look at them.
Outline size is set to 5.5% of font size.
In the select menu there are no completions to align in a grid, so the
better looking proportional font of --osd-font can be used by default.
It is also easier to read for the visually impaired.
The text width calculation is no longer performed if the console is only
opened through select, it is only performed the first time something is
completed. This avoids having to pass an argument to get_font() to make
it use the monospace font regardless of selectable_items.
Fixes#15176.
Currently they refer to the OSC documentation. However,
the "mp.options functions" already documents that, is more detailed,
and does not contain false statements like "there may be no spaces around
the ``=`` or anywhere else" (the primitive parser does not care about
them, so starting a string option value with spaces is perfectly fine).
Change them to refer to "mp.options functions" and remove the redundant
section in the OSC documentation.
This is useful for completing files and more rarely for profiles. It
will also be useful to third-party scripts interacting with the console
once the API to do it is merged.
A simplified version of the text width estimation code from uosc.
An osd_overlay is created with compute_bounds=true for measuring the
width of the lower case alphabet at what's estimated to be the largest
font size possible without clipping.
The lower case alphabet was chosen to get decent results for proportional
fonts, even if they aren't officially supported.
Completion suggestions are now nicely formatted into a table.
Maximum width of the table is estimated based on OSD size and
font size.
This requires a new scaling factor option `font_hw_ratio`.
A factor of 2.15 works great for me,
but the default is 2.0 to avoid problems with other fonts.
The space between columns is automatically adjusted to be
between 2 and 8 spaces.
It tries to use as few rows as possible.
Deduplicate history like the fish shell. So for example
entering "cmd 1" then "cmd 2" then "cmd 3" then "cmd 1"
would result in a history of
[cmd 2][cmd 3][cmd 1]
instead of
[cmd 1][cmd 2][cmd 3][cmd 1]
Adds a function `history_add` to replace directly adding to history.
Adds an option `history_dedup` to activate the deduplication.
Defaults to on.
This allows keybindings such as:
a script-message-to console type "seek :0 absolute" 6
% script-message-to console type "seek absolute-percent" 6
The cursor position 0 isn't allowed because it has the weird effect of
filling the console with the text twice, leaving the cursor in the
middle.
Negative positions would put the cursor n characters before the end, and
positions greater than the text's length at the end. They seem to work
at first, but the console breaks when you move the cursor, so they
aren't allowed.
It seems that float values don't cause issues, but I'm using the
argument's floor anyway to be safe. Using >= 1 instead of > 0 ignores
values like 0.5.
I decided to factor this into the user's scale option (instead of
somehow using it as default if the user has not specified it), because
it makes the option handling simpler, and won't break things like
per-screen DPI if the user only wants to scale the console font by a
factor.
Merged from mpv-repl git repo commit 5ea2bf64f9c239f0326b02. Some
changes were made on top of it:
- Tabs were converted to 4 spaces indentation (plus some manual
indentation fixes in some places).
- All user-visible mentions of "repl" were renamed to "console".
- The README was converted to a manpage (with heavy changes, some
additions taken from stats.rst; rossy converted the key bindings
table to RST).
- The method to change the default key binding was changed.
- Change minor detail about "font" default value setting (not a
functional change).
- Integrate into the player as builtin script, including an option to
prevent loading it.
